Job overview
We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and passionate Band 6 Occupational Therapist based at the inpatient learning disability unit at Townend Court, Hull. The successful candidate will work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team providing assessments and treatments to adults with a learning disability and often complex needs who are on the inpatient unit.
We are a well-established small team of friendly, motivated and committed individuals. You will receive regular individual supervision, CPD, training and support within the role to help transfer your skills and develop competencies in this specialist field.
Main duties of the job
1. Manage a caseload of in patient service users with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles.
2. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions to enhance the quality of life for the patient. Interventions will include psychosocial and physical health/equipment interventions as well as more specialist work such as using a sensory based approach.
3. Use standardised and non-standardised assessments to ascertain patients care needs and inform intervention.
4. Assess for and prescribe appropriate equipment and advise on moving and handling.
5. Contribute to the wider MDT working and interventions such as positive behavioural support.
6. Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy Services. Provide outcomes for the service and service users by using agreed tools/assessments.
7. Contribute to the development and maintenance of Occupational Therapy within the Trust. Ensure OT provision is delivered in accordance with HCPC and Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) requirements.
8. Provide supervision for junior staff.

Person specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* HCPC registration
* Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent, approved by the HCPC.
* Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation and guidance relevant to clinical and service area.
* Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area.
* Specialist understanding of relevant clinical practice, standards and protocols within identified clinical area.
* Evidence of undertaking audits/surveys.
* Demonstrate clinical experience in mental health and/or physical health.
* Adhere to professional standards for Occupational Therapy Practice, as detailed by the HCPC and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), legal and professional responsibilities.
* Member of specialist interest group/network, locally or regionally.
* Knowledge/experience and/or post graduate qualification in Sensory Integration.
* Knowledge/experience of Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) techniques.
Experience
* Evidence of sound post-registration professional practice.
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at a specialist level of care.
* Experience of multi-agency/professional working.
* Evidence of promoting/supporting active patient/relative involvement/participation.
* Good understanding of relevant consent and confidentiality legislation/GDPR.
* Ability to manage a case load, whether a larger caseload or smaller but more complex cases.
* Ability to write evidence based reports and advice around reasonable adjustments.
* Sensitivity to a diverse range of clients and evidence of responding to their different needs.
* Experience of handling conflict and managing sensitive issues to achieve positive outcomes.
