About the Role: Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Mathematics department, ensuring the delivery of an outstanding and engaging curriculum across all key stages, including GCSE and A-Level Mathematics and potentially Further Mathematics. Develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies and resources to inspire students and promote a deep conceptual understanding of mathematical principles, problem-solving skills, and logical reasoning. Lead, support, and mentor a talented team of Mathematics teachers, fostering a collaborative, high-achieving, and supportive departmental culture. Oversee the planning, delivery, and rigorous assessment of the Mathematics curriculum, ensuring consistently high standards and excellent student outcomes at all levels. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning within the department, implementing data-driven strategies for continuous improvement and ensuring best practices are shared. Contribute to the broader academic life of the school, potentially leading or supporting extracurricular mathematics clubs, competitions, and enrichment activities. Manage departmental resources effectively, including budgeting and the procurement of teaching materials and technology. Work collaboratively with other Heads of Department and the Senior Leadership Team to contribute to the overall strategic direction of the school. Ideal Candidate: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong academic background in Mathematics, holding a relevant degree. Significant and successful experience teaching Mathematics at the secondary level, with a proven track record of leadership, raising student achievement, and leading a high-performing department, including experience with A-Level Mathematics and ideally Further Mathematics. A deep and current understanding of the Mathematics curriculum, assessment requirements, and innovative pedagogical approaches. Exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both students and a team of teachers. A demonstrable passion for mathematics and the ability to convey its beauty and power to young women, encouraging their engagement and success in the subject. Experience in curriculum development, data analysis, departmental budgeting, and performance management. A strong commitment to the education and empowerment of girls in mathematics.
