Job Description
Overview
Reporting to: Head of Events
Visa Sponsorship: Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application.
Background Checks: Due to the nature of the work we do with global governments and partners, all employees are required to pass background checks, verifying your identity, education (if relevant), work history, sanctions, criminal record, adverse financial history and right to work.
You can expect to hear from us, no matter the outcome, by: 21 February
Salary Expectations: We aim for transparency on salary bands. The junior band is £30,000 to £40,000 and we are open to hiring up to a mid-level on the level above (i.e. up to £45,000). If our range feels misaligned with your expectations, we’d welcome an open conversation as early as possible.
The Role
The Event Marketer will lead the charge in developing compelling event narratives, creating high-quality marketing assets and promoting events to relevant audiences and channels, especially email marketing. Your goal is to increase reach and engagement across all events at Apolitical, including free events for the global public service, community networking events, partnered events developed with and for government and external events and conferences. You will play a key role in growing Apolitical’s global audience by being part of the team delivering innovative virtual events and an increasing number of in-person events, while shaping the conversation around public service excellence. Your ability to write in Apolitical’s brand voice, combined with your event and marketing expertise, will be crucial to success.
Team
You’ll be reporting to our Head of Events, Jenna, to deliver a programme of events for Apolitical members, partners, and internal stakeholders. The Events Team serves our broader strategic objectives of platform growth and engagement, business development, revenue and brand salience. The Events Team is currently composed of an Event Production Planner, who designs the event concepts on paper and secures expert speakers and an Event Operations Planner who brings the event concept to life, building all the required assets. You will collaborate with core teams across the rest of the business regularly, notably Comms, but also including Partnerships and Product.
High Level Responsibilities
1. Existing Marketing Channels: Find creative ways to augment the impact of our ongoing email, referral and social media marketing campaigns, in terms of event registration, retention (attendance turnout) and post-event engagement.
2. New Marketing Strategies: Lead and support on initiatives to secure growth of members in new channels, geographical markets and within new segments of users.
3. Drive Segmentation: Maximise event performance through a clear segmentation plan for each event and create a scalable model to tailor to segments for success.
4. Event Positioning and Tone of Voice: Collaborate on event design with the Event Production Planner to develop event positioning including descriptions, learning objectives and scripts that match Apolitical’s brand voice.
5. Asset Creation: Support the Comms team and Events Operation Planner in creating, reviewing and preparing brand and marketing assets (digital & physical) ready for Event Day.
6. Content Strategy: Create post-event content (videos, articles, social media) and devise content marketing ideas that extend the impact and longevity of events.
7. Data-Driven Decisions: Analyse event data to improve future campaigns and event programming.
Event Marketing
* Own event email marketing; creating high-quality, audience-focused marketing campaigns using platforms like HubSpot to create emails and segmented targeting lists.
* Play a key role in event social media marketing, alongside the Communications team; creating a robust plan for enhancing conversations to registration and other key metrics through social media.
* Identify and test new marketing channels and partnerships to successfully expand the reach of Apolitical’s events to the global public service, as measured by event registrations from target audiences.
* Manage cross-product promotion, including the use of events to redirect to Apolitical’s Courses, Communities of Practice, Insights Reports and more.
* Create and proof event descriptions and other user-facing copy, as well as writing and reviewing scripts, from a brand voice perspective. Some of this will involve being able to create, amend and critically edit AI-generated copy.
* Steer event segmentation for maximum performance, and work with our User Research and Comms team to ensure that ongoing user segmentation and public servant needs are considered in events.
* Support on our in-person, external conference involvement & promotion, including drafting invitation copy, managing invite lists and RSVP processes with senior stakeholders, and creating digital and physical assets for proofing like slide decks, branded badges and handouts.
* Proofread event marketing assets to ensure they meet Apolitical’s editorial standards.
* Track and analyse key metrics like registrations, attendee engagement and campaign performance, to inform continuous improvements.
Event Production
* Assist our dedicated Event Production Planner in creating event design and agendas which meet goals of event attendees.
* Craft event titles, scripts and other content design pieces.
* Support with speaker outreach and relationship management with experts in public service.
* Moderate live virtual events as part of a wider pool of moderators at Apolitical.
About You
This is a great fit if you…
* Are an exceptional writer, independent of AI, who can produce compelling content in a warm, human tone while maintaining attention to grammar and brand voice.
* Are a critical and creative thinker, able to identify and validate new ideas based on insights.
* Have a strong interest in digital marketing, event marketing or event production, particularly in the public sector or in a government environment.
* Are an exceptional proofer, with an eagle eye for detail.
* Are excited about the prospect of working on marketing campaigns which drive attendance and engagement.
* Are a skilled project manager who can juggle multiple priorities and stay organised in a fast-paced environment, with multiple events ongoing at the same time.
* Enjoy collaborating across teams and bringing people together to execute shared goals.
* Are data-driven, and find monitoring and analysing event and marketing performance to draw conclusions from metrics insightful and inspiring.
* Have a passion for quality and constant improvement.
This likely won’t be the right role if you…
* Prefer working independently rather than in a collaborative team environment.
* Dislike working on fast-moving projects or juggling multiple tasks at once.
* Are uncomfortable with tight deadlines or iterative processes.
* Struggle with ambiguity or making decisions in uncertainty.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. Apolitical is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
Application Process
Apolitical uses Applied in our recruitment. Applied aims to overcome unconscious bias in recruiting. Instead of using your CV alone, we'll be asking you to answer questions to test skills needed for the role. The answers are then anonymised, and reviewed in a random order by members of our team.
The Applied platform also asks some demographic questions before you start your application. No one at Apolitical sees the answers to these demographic questions with your application. We only see summary statistics to help us check if our candidate pool is balanced and if everyone has an equal chance to get hired irrespective of their background. If you prefer, you can easily opt out of answering these questions.
Using AI in your application answers
At Apolitical, we embrace new technologies and encourage the use of AI in our work. However, as AI becomes more prevalent, it can be difficult to distinguish between machine-generated content and the unique perspectives of candidates. We’re excited to see how you use AI tools to structure and refine your answers, but we value your unique insights above all else. Ensure your application reflects your voice and how your skills align with our mission.
Stages in Our Hiring Process:
1. Culture Interview [45m on Google Meet]: We ask you questions on fundamental skills and behaviours for working at Apolitical. This call is about finding candidates who will add to our culture. It’s an opportunity to get to know you and for you to get to know us as an organisation, so we make time at the end for you to ask us questions about how we work.
2. Team Interview [45m on Google Meet]: We ask you questions on fundamental skills and behaviours for the role. It’s an opportunity to meet some of the people you might end up working with, so we make time at the end for you to ask us questions about the team and role.
3. Chief Executive Interview [30m on Google Meet]: We build on conversations you've had with other team members to learn about your motivations and drivers at work and within the Apolitical context.
