The Cancer Services team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit to three full time Advanced Nurse/Care Practitioners to join its Acute Oncology Service (AOS) and cover a seven day service. (One of these posts can be a training post).
We are looking for experienced and highly motivated individuals to expand our AOS service and to improve the service offering to our patients.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the development and expansion of the service, to lead on a new model of care and to provide education and leadership to the tumour site teams as well as urgent care and ward based staff.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking experienced and highly motivated individuals to lead the provision of the clinical management of patients that present to the hospital who are unwell as a result of their cancer, side effects of their cancer treatment or have a new diagnosis of cancer in conjunction with the Clinical Lead for Acute Oncology.
This also includes the management of those patients that present with a cancer of unknown primary. These posts will be pivotal to the development, promotion, and delivery of a new service model. The ongoing education of colleagues at all levels will also be a central component.
The post holders will apply high levels of autonomy and demonstrate strong leadership qualities. They should also possess advanced communication skills and be able to communicate complex and sensitive information.

Key responsibilities:
* To provide care for presenting patients in an emergency setting acting as liaison and expert in oncology acting within their professional boundaries.
* To undertake initial clinical assessment, diagnosis, evaluation and development of treatment plan in conjunction with the clinical lead.
* To advise urgent care, tumour site and ward based clinical and nursing colleagues on the management of acute oncology patients.
* To facilitate the development of skills and knowledge for other staff, supporting specific educational and developmental needs to meet service requirements.

Education and qualifications
Essential
* Post graduate qualification in cancer care, acute medicine or equivalent experience
* MSC level qualification
* Non-medical prescribing course
* Mentorship qualification
* Advanced communication qualification
* Advanced clinical practice
* Post registration experience at senior level (band 7).
* Chemotherapy/SACT training (or the willingness to undertake this course).

* Advanced life support qualification
