Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth has a reputation for innovation and excellence, consistently delivering outstanding performance, whilst developing the skills and abilities of our staff. We are delighted to have recently been rated “GOOD” overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Clinical Oncology colleague to join our existing Urology and Lung Cancer practices. The postholder will provide oncological treatments (both radiotherapy and systemic treatments) for patients diagnosed with Urological cancers (Isle of Wight) and Lung cancers (Portsmouth).
The successful candidate will provide radiotherapy treatments for Urological cancers on the Isle of Wight, as well as systemic therapies for patients with metastatic prostate cancer. On the island, they will work alongside a Medical Oncologist and be supported by Specialist Registrars, prescribers and Clinical Nurse Specialists. A joint Isle of Wight/Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust MDT is held weekly. The department is in the top 10 recruiters nationally to the PACE-NODES trial and has recently started offering prostate SABR routinely to eligible patients. The department has also for many years been one of the highest recruiters to the STAMPEDE trial and is currently completing RTTQA approval for participation in the SABR arm of the trial (including spinal SABR).
The Lung practice will be based at Queen Alexandra Hospital and represents an expansion of this thriving team of Clinical Oncologists and Medical Oncologists, treating patients across Portsmouth and West Sussex. The successful candidate will provide radiotherapy (including SABR) with concurrent systemic therapy, where required, but will not be required to give chemotherapy in the metastatic setting. Like the Urology practice, the Lung team also have an active and expanding thoracic and radiotherapy research portfolio.
The post is a 10 PA post, although candidates wishing to work fewer PAs are most welcome to discuss their requirements with the department. Other site speciality interests could be accommodated; however, candidates are encouraged to discuss their preferences.
