Raw Materials Manager
Founded in 1934, our client is a leading manufacturer of technical workwear that owns manufacturing plants in 11 countries and employs 5,000+ skilled professionals. Operating globally, its premium service offering and quality aftercare service has enabled the business to establish a desirable reputation for delivering high standards and innovations to multiple industries. Developing the innovation capabilities of the UK business is the next stage of our client's growth strategy and therefore requires a qualified Raw Materials Manager to act as the ‘technical lead’ for the UK business. This role will maximise efficiency, best practice and excellence across R&D, quality control, product development and innovation departments. Ultimately this will enhance the business’ customer satisfaction, turnover and company profile within the marketplace at an exciting time for the business.
The Role:
The business currently generates £40M+ T/O in the UK, with circa £10M being credited to the technical workwear range. However, there is significant potential for growth so the role will focus on developing two strategies:
1. Rationalise and develop the existing product range
2. Expand the range into new target sectors based on industry trends
Reporting to the Operations Director, responsibilities will include:
* Research and validation of new fabrics/textiles & innovations
* Ensure all new products/innovations are delivered in line with company objectives/timescales
* Deliver accurate quality control and oversee fabric testing procedures
* Occasional factory visits to offer product training/presentations, resolve issues and negotiation of favourable pricing/contractual terms
* Control inventory & stock levels
* Support catalogue, customer project and product launch execution
* Ensure service levels are maintained at a high standard
* Keep abreast of legislation & standards, customer, market and product trends
* Collaborate with internal department heads to achieve business objectives
The Individual:
The qualities of the successful candidate will include a dedicated approach to project management, innovation, quality control and delivering agreed objectives. A strong technical mindset and the ability to absorb and retain market and product knowledge is also important.
This individual must have strong negotiation skills, commercial awareness, understand the needs of the business and communicate effectively with internal/external stakeholders. This candidate must demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and adapt to the company size, internal processes, culture and values.
Although candidates from a technical textiles/garment manufacturer background will be preferred, qualified candidates working for a technical workwear distributor (e.g., Arco, Bunzl Greenham etc.) will also be considered. The successful candidate will ideally be located within a commutable distance to Head Office in North West England (or willing to relocate), speak fluent English, and be willing to travel in line with the needs of the business.
Package / Remuneration:
The remuneration package offered at this stage is subject to the experience of the candidate, but will likely include the following:
* Basic salary: Up to £50,000 (depending on experience)
