Job Description
Overall purpose of the role: To be the main point of contact for Parents/Carers and agencies when a student is absent from the academy. The role involves supporting the work of the Student Managers to achieve consistently good attendance while ensuring effective and efficient attendance administration.
Safeguarding requirements: This post requires the postholder to work in settings with children and young adults. Employment offers are subject to the results of an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Key outputs:
1. Ensure that the attendance and punctuality data is accurate and the school procedures are being fulfilled.
2. Communicate effectively with Student Managers, Form Tutors and Senior Leaders.
3. Lead initiatives which raise awareness of school attendance and punctuality.
4. Make unsupervised contact with families to assess attendance issues.
5. Devise and collate reports for the Headteacher and pastoral team.
6. Help reduce staff workload linked to attendance through the effective use of technology.
7. Maintain clear records of all consultations with stakeholders.
8. Keep up to date knowledge of current guidance and good practice in relation to attendance.
9. Promote positive attitudes towards education and ensure parents are aware of their responsibilities.
10. Monitor and improve attendance, particularly for students who are persistently absent.
11. Liaise and develop effective links with outside agencies.
12. Manage and prioritise your own workload.
13. Line manage the Attendance Support Officer.
14. Attend relevant meetings to the role.
15. Ensure the correct attendance codes are used as evidence for Ofsted.
16. Monitor leave of absence requests and provide QA data.
17. Prepare up-to-date case studies for Ofsted.
18. Liaise with the Pastoral Team regarding CME referrals.
19. Contribute to raising achievement by improving school attendance.
20. Carry out any reasonable duties as directed by the Deputy Headteacher.
21. Uphold the vision and ethos of the Trust.
22. Recognise own strengths and support others.
23. Promote teamwork within the team.
24. Treat all users of the school with courtesy.
25. Comply with all Trust policies.
26. Promote and actively support the school’s responsibilities towards safeguarding.

* Degree or equivalent qualification.
* Maths and English GCSE to grade 4/C or equivalent.
* Substantial Arbor/SIMS/excel experience.
* Experience in an educational setting working with children/young people.
* Excellent knowledge and experience of attendance in school.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Experience of dealing with sensitive issues.
* Strong numeracy and IT skills.
* Excellent administration skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and multi-task.
* Up to date knowledge of attendance policies and legislation.
* Understanding of safeguarding legislation.
