Operations Engineer
Location: Manchester
Type: Permanent
Salary: £45,000pa
Located in Stretford, Trafford Park with hybrid working options.
Operations Engineers will improve, maintain, and support data capture systems, collaborating with other Operations Engineers, the Operations Team Lead, the Server Capture technical lead, and other colleagues.
The data capture systems consist of a combination of open-source and bespoke software running on the Linux platform. There is heavy use of automation tools such as Puppet and Terraform to deliver these capabilities.
Beyond regular maintenance, operations, and support tasks, there will be ample opportunities to engage in the development of automation and systems management. The client has an out-of-hours on-call team (additional compensation is provided) that you would be asked to join after a suitable settling-in period.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Day-to-day maintenance of servers and services
2. Handling support requests from customers and staff
3. Deployment and scaling of systems
4. Collaboration with engineering, testing, user experience, and other roles
5. Handling alarms and alerts
6. Improving monitoring and alerting
7. Investigating and monitoring performance
8. Adhering to company policies and procedures regarding security, quality, and health and safety
About You: Here's what we're looking for:
1. Linux - CentOS/Alma preferred
2. The ability to solve problems and find or source information
3. Following established processes
4. Good communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Python or other scripting languages
2. Experience in running servers at scale
3. Experience with VPS and dedicated server hosting companies worldwide
4. Familiarity with Puppet, Terraform, or other Infrastructure as Code tools
5. Administrative knowledge of common business tools such as Atlassian's suite, Microsoft 365, etc.
6. Experience with AWS CloudWatch, PagerDuty, or other monitoring tools
7. Windows desktop management / InTune MDM
