Hours: Full time – 37 Hours per week (08:00 – 16:00 M-F) Occasional overtime but not compulsory
Base salary: £36,316- £40,798 per annum depending on experience + £500 per annum tool allowance
Pension: Automatic membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme – career average pension scheme with 17.5% employer contribution

Do you have practical mechanical, fabrication or welding skills?
At Kent Fire and Rescue we have a significant number of ladders that need to be serviced and maintained to ensure firefighters can use them safely when responding to incidents across the County. We also use breathing apparatus that requires maintenance.
There are no specific ladder qualifications we expect you to have as training will be provided, but we do need you to have City and Guilds in Fabrication/Engineering, TIG/MIG welding or equivalent experience.
You will know that the work you do has a significant contribution to keeping Kent and Medway safe.
What you’ll do
1. Carry out the statutory inspections and testing on the organisation's ladders, CABA compressors and other operational equipment, recording the results to maintain the organisation’s legal compliance.
2. Carry out the servicing, maintenance and repair of defects to the organisation's ladders, CABA apparatus compressors and other types of operational equipment, ensuring that the asset management system and written records are completed.
3. Analyse and assess technical and engineering developments related to ladders, CABA compressors and specialist equipment. Work with Operational Services providing advice and guidance as necessary to support written instructions and safe systems of work.
4. Work closely with other post holders to provide comprehensive service to the County.
5. Be an active member of the Fleet and Equipment Services team in respect of managing business continuity events as they occur.
What you’ll bring
* City and Guilds in Fabrication/Engineering, TIG/MIG welding or equivalent experience
* Ability to quickly acquire technical knowledge relating to the servicing, repair and inspection of ladders and CABA compressors.
* Knowledge of health and safety
* Physically able to dismantle and reassemble after repair ladders, CABA compressors and other operational equipment.
* Workload planning and scheduling to ensure that the whole fleet of ladders and compressors are serviced to the required schedule.
* Good IT skills that include the use of Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, email and asset management systems.
* Must hold a current UK manual driving licence. Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) would be preferable.
* Experience of (or the ability to quickly acquire) the exigencies of fire service ladder and CABA use.
* Demonstrable experience of working in a complex, multi-demand mechanical technician environment.
* Must be able to plan and coordinate own workload and administrative duties as needed.
