Our Client, a UK based engineering and technology company, specialising in mission-critical, highly secure communications and electronic systems, are expanding the existing design team by recruiting a permanent Lead Electronics Design Engineer. Working as part of a small team of design experts, and under the direction of the Head of Design, the Lead Electronics Design Engineer will be involved in the delivery of innovative electronic design projects and test solutions for defence (naval and air) applications.
You can expect to be involved in many areas, that include:
Creating design concepts, schematics and associated specifications, review packs and validation strategies.
Carrying out verification and validation testing, and supporting factory acceptance testing.
Ensuring that all design changes are fully documented, approved, correctly released and appropriately stored/archived.
Conducting peer reviews and support formal design reviews.
Carrying out electronics cooling simulation modelling (training provided where necessary)
Conducting DFMEA (design failure mode effects & analysis) reviews
Ensuring that all design work is cost optimised in accordance with product BOM cost targets and development labour budget.
Identifying and implementing opportunities to improve design process robustness/efficiency.
Providing support to junior designers and sub contract designers.
Supporting the Production team during prototype builds to ensure that any issues are swiftly resolved.
To succeed, we are looking for the following in you:
The ability to gain SC clearance (essential security requirement).
Electronics related degree significant demonstrable experience may be considered in lieu of academics.
Highly proficient in the design and layout (ideally using Altium) of innovative, high-reliability, power-efficient electronic circuits for use in demanding environments.
In depth understanding of the principles of designing for success in EMC testing
Experience of designing PCB assemblies with JTAG interfaces
Experience of electronics packaging design
Experience of working with various micro controllers and associated micro code
Experience of designing for test
Experience of designing functional test and establishing and documenting test coverage
Experience of analogue circuit design for sensors and interfaces
Ability to identify and assess power/battery solutions for demanding environments
Ability to estimate work effort with reasonable accuracy, and finish on time without close supervision
Willingness and desire to acquire new skills and invest in professional self-development
Excellent communications skills with proven ability to engage and build strong working relationships in a team environment Advantageous:
Experience of electronics cooling simulation software, ideally SolidWorks Electronics Cooling
Practical LabView experience
Knowledge or proven ability to interpret defence standards
Experience of working with C++ and/or C for microcontrollers
Practical exposure to software programming
Experience in a highly regulated engineering environment (preferably Defence or Aerospace)
