SC Technical Support Engineer - Telecommunications vacancy in Gloucester (181lw)
An excellent opportunity to join a leading international provider of cutting-edge Telecommunications solutions for mission & business critical networks serving Military, Government, Transport & Utility markets. Our client is looking to appoint 2 additional Technical Support Engineers that will be fundamental to the company’s operational capability, a defined career path is available with future options available.
The company provide a wide range of PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, MPLS, Optical specialised, DWDM, Cellular and Wireless, LTE based networking equipment and Synchronization. They provide and manage a variety of SNMP based network management systems that run on Linux, Solaris, and Windows servers. The applicant must have a basic understanding of these technologies with specialist knowledge in at least one of the Key Technical Skills.
Our client is looking for a positive, hardworking candidate who is willing to learn and keep on top of modern communication technologies as the telecommunication industry evolves. The company has a reputation for integrity and strong technical capability, the applicant will need to be a team player who can contribute ideas and apply good fault resolution methodology in an open environment. This person must also be capable of applying this knowledge both on-site with customers and in-house.
They provide 24/7 support to customers so the ability to participate in an out of hours rota is essential. This will take the form phone support, Email support and the occasional customer site visit.
This is not an IT role or suitable for fiber pullers/splicers. This is a more skilled technical role, and candidates are needed to assist on network infrastructure. They will not be focusing on the maintenance & prep of servers & IT related queries.
Key Technical Skills
1. Specialist knowledge in Optical Networks and associated hardware.
2. Familiar with a range of test equipment such as optical power meters & light sources, BERT’s, cellular scanners and multi-meters.
3. Familiar with Cellular RTE, Routing & Switching protocols and network synchronization.
4. Able to conduct testing and produce full comprehensive test documentation / reports.
5. Experienced in fault finding methodology.
6. The ability to manage fault tickets process from beginning to end.
7. Ability to administer and run turnkey projects.
8. Experience with remote network management platforms.
Key Supporting Skills
* Comfortable engaging with both customers and suppliers on technical and project related matters.
* The ability to train other members of the team and customers.
* Available to carry out field activities as when the business requires, to include GPS & cabinet surveys, Installation of telecoms equipment, commissioning and fault rectification.
* Hold or previously held any telecommunications-related courses/qualifications with regards to theory, installations, testing, commissioning, power & H&S.
