Job overview
Would you like to work in a large, supportive Occupational Therapy Department with lots of opportunities and support? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our innovative and dynamic Community Team at the North London Forensic Service (NLFS).
The post holder will be required to undertake responsibility for providing a community occupational therapy service for a designated caseload of service users being discharged from Forensic Secure Units into the community in the NLFS catchment areas of Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden and Islington. Intervention will focus on functional daily living skills and specific mental health and risk issues.
The post holder will be working with service users detained under The Mental Health Act, 1983 (amended 2007), many of whom suffer from a severe and enduring mental illness and have an offending history, and have recently been discharged from hospital but remain under the support services of the forensic mental health community team.
The post holder will work in collaboration with inpatient OTs to ensure transition into the community is consistent and supportive. The post holder will work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and relevant outside agencies, to plan and implement personalised care packages for individuals; this may include individual, group and assessment work.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the job are to provide effective and timely care within a multidisciplinary team setting to a forensic client group. To assess OT needs, devise care programmes and packages of care including risk assessment. To implement and evaluate treatment plans in collaboration with service users, providing individual and group interventions.
The post holder will provide supervision and support to more junior staff within a growing OT team and undertake duties designed to extend clinical and managerial expertise, supported by the B7.
The successful candidate will have strong engagement and motivational skills and be able to work well with service users with complex mental health needs and a forensic / offending history. The post holder will require effective written and verbal communication skills with a working knowledge of the occupational therapy process.
The successful post holder will be supported with regular supervision, a yearly appraisal and many CPD opportunities including a robust in-house training programme, peer support sessions, and ongoing learning opportunities. There is also opportunity to be involved in research and quality improvement projects.
Working for our organisation
The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) is going from strength to strength since it was originally established in 2021 forming the North London Mental Health Partnership.
In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that falls under Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.
