Specialty Doctor - Respiratory (Specialty Doctor) - Respiratory Medicine - Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust – Basildon, Essex
Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Respiratory and General Medicine to join our existing team of specialty doctors to commence as soon as possible. This post will be based at Basildon Hospital.
We are a friendly and busy department providing a range of inpatient and outpatient services to our local population. We are keen for an enthusiastic and energetic specialty doctor to join the respiratory medicine department, who is committed to first-class patient care, willing to support and mentor more junior doctors, and is a flexible team player.
Previous experience in Respiratory Medicine is desirable but not essential, as full training would be provided. However, applicants must have good experience in acute medical specialties and preferably have MRCP or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
You will have the opportunity to experience and train in sub-specialty interests including non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, sleep-disordered breathing, TB, asthma, COPD, lung cancer, pleural diseases, and cardio-pulmonary physiology.
The inpatient respiratory service is provided on two designated respiratory wards with a 12-bedded Acute Respiratory Care Unit where level 2 non-invasive ventilation care is provided.
You will be provided with excellent and extensive clinical and practical experience in general and respiratory medicine, with ample opportunity to learn and consolidate bedside pleural procedures skills including attaining level 1 thoracic US competency.
The ward inpatient case mix is both respiratory and general medical, and we have a stable junior doctor workforce to provide safe and efficient care to the admitted patients under the close supervision of consultants.
Two weekly outpatient clinics are held to manage various lung conditions and communicate with patients' GPs with clinic letters to deliver shared care plans.
We work together to deliver excellent local and specialist services to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate, and build careers.
From facilities through to consultant specialists, we want to be the best. To achieve this, we need to recruit not just those who are the finest in their field but also those who have the potential to be. Yes, experience is important, but so is outlook – if you are dynamic, forward-thinking, and enthusiastic, we want you to join us.
We offer a good working environment with flexible working opportunities, as well as the opportunity to develop your career with access to appropriate training for your job and the support to succeed and progress.
You will provision for in-patient care on the respiratory wards, working in the firm structure for a named consultant having day-to-day supervisory responsibility for patients on the ward, participate in daily ward rounds to review patients, maintain progress notes, be a safe prescriber, request and act on the results of appropriate and relevant investigations, and perform necessary bedside procedures such as pleural interventions to avoid delays to patient care.
You will participate in ward MDT meetings (board rounds) to plan safe discharge and facilitate electronic discharge notifications containing relevant information to GPs and arrange suitable follow-up plans for the patients where appropriate while working closely with the medical and nursing team on all wards.
