6 month Fixed Term/Secondment
We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed individual tojoin our friendly, dynamic and enthusiastic team at UHDB in the Diagnostic Ophthalmic Technician Team. The position is a fixed term Maternity cover position.
The successful candidate will be required to provide diagnostic Ophthalmic support for the Ophthalmology services provided by Queen’s Hospital, Burton-upon-Trent which includes the Treatment Centre Burton, Samuel Johnson Community Hospital Lichfield, and Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital Tamworth.
Candidates will ideally have experience of Visual Field assessment, Optical Coherence Tomography and/or Fundus photography and a background knowledge of Ophthalmology and the anatomy of the eye, however in-house training can be provided until competencies in all areas have been achieved.
The post holder will be part of the Ophthalmology team working in a busy Ophthalmology department. The team consists of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Orthoptists, Ophthalmic Science Practitioners, Assistant Ophthalmic Science Practitioners, nursing and administrative staff
As this post will include working across all Trust sites, it is highly advantageous for you to be a car owner/driver.
Clinical duties will include
• Visual function assessment using automated equipment to select and perform visual fields and assess visual acuity).
• Visual function assessment using automated equipment to include:• Optical Coherence Tomography of the optic nerve and retinal nerve fibre layer
• Optical Coherence Tomography of the macula area of the retina
• Static perimetry using the Humphrey Visual Field analyser
• Fundus/Retinal photography
Candidates will ideally have all the skills outlined above for the Band 3 role, however in-house training can be provided until competencies in all areas have been achieved.
Administrative duties will include:
• Data input.
• Dealing with telephone, email and verbal enquiries.
• Supporting the Orthoptic department with general administrative duties.
• Other administrative duties as advised by the Orthoptist management.
