We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Engineer with an active security clearance to join our clients team, on a particular project required on-site with the end customer in Barrow-In-Furness.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure and scalable network infrastructures that support the organization’s operations. You will ensure the security, performance, and reliability of the network, while also addressing potential vulnerabilities and adhering to strict government security protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Network Design & Implementation:
* Design, deploy, and maintain secure and efficient network systems (LAN/WAN/WLAN).
* Evaluate, install, and configure networking hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
* Perform network performance monitoring and ensure optimal network functionality.
Security & Compliance:
* Implement security protocols to protect network data integrity and confidentiality.
* Regularly update network configurations to comply with government security regulations (e.g., NIST, DoD STIGs).
* Perform risk assessments and vulnerability scans to identify and address potential security threats.
* Ensure continuous compliance with government-mandated security policies and procedures.
Troubleshooting & Support:
* Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for network-related issues.
* Respond to network outages and security incidents in a timely manner.
* Collaborate with internal teams to ensure system integration and reliability.
Documentation & Reporting:
* Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, changes, and procedures.
* Create detailed reports for audits, performance metrics, and incident response.
* Support government audits and compliance reviews by providing necessary documentation and technical information.
Collaboration & Communication:
* Work closely with cybersecurity teams to implement and enforce security measures.
* Liaise with vendors, external contractors, and government agencies to ensure network integrity and compliance.
* Provide guidance and mentorship to junior network engineers.
Qualifications
Experience:
* 3-5 years of experience in network engineering, preferably in a government or defence environment.
* Experience working with Cisco, Juniper, and other enterprise-level networking equipment.
* Proven experience in configuring and managing firewalls, VPNs, and security appliances.
Certifications (Preferred):
* Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent certification.
* CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or other relevant security certifications.
Skills & Knowledge:
* Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF), and switching.
* Expertise in network security best practices, encryption technologies, and authentication methods.
* Familiarity with government security regulations (e.g., FISMA, DoD directives).
* Ability to conduct network vulnerability assessments and mitigation strategies.
