Job overview
To provide comprehensive administrative, clerical, and non-clinical support to the professional staff involved in patient care and to work as a key member of the ward team by supporting a patient-focused and friendly environment.
The Ward Clerk will be flexible in developing the role to meet the individual needs of the ward.
Main duties of the job
To provide efficient and professional administrative and clerical support to the Medical Assessment Unit. This will include:
* Receiving patients and relatives in a friendly and courteous manner and providing relevant information clearly and understandably.
* Answering all telephone inquiries, taking and relaying messages politely and helpfully.
* Liaising with nurses, doctors, GPs, and other team members to obtain and communicate necessary information accurately.
* Maintaining an efficient filing system for tracking health records.
* Maintaining the admissions book, inpatient board, and patient details/appointments on the patient administration system efficiently.

Person specification
* Evidence of good general education to perform administrative duties. No formal qualifications required.
* The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Organised, efficient, and accurate in clerical work.
* The ability to work efficiently as part of a team.
* The ability to prioritise own workload.
* Able to act on own initiative and understand the limitations of own role and knowledge.
* RSA II Computer driving licence, NVQ level 2 in Care.
* Previous experience in the NHS or similar healthcare setting (patient/customer focused environment).
* Knowledge of and previous experience using TDS and Email.
* Previous experience in a care environment.
Application and interview
* Basic keyboard skills.
* Ability to perform basic functions on Microsoft Office - Word, Outlook, Excel.
* The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to patients and staff at various levels, including on the telephone.
* Good customer care skills - able to put patients at ease and deal with them professionally.
