Job Overview
The Faculty of Art and Technology comprises of a team of passionate and experienced educators who are dedicated to empowering young people to be creative. We work collaboratively to support each other, by sharing creative ideas and expertise.
In Art, KS3 students begin their education by developing knowledge and confidence with the formal elements, taking a ‘trip around the world’ to discover new cultures and express themselves through a variety of materials and techniques. They then explore fantasy art to allow imagination to transport them to new possibilities. They practise technical drawing and building techniques, while learning about a variety of both historical and contemporary artists. Students will study popular culture and will be encouraged to reflect on themselves, to make artwork more personal, expressing their own opinion and perspectives.
In Technology, KS3 engage in a carousel of four different technologies: Food, Graphics, Textiles and Woodwork. As they rotate around the carousel, students create a repertoire of knowledge and skills that will help them to develop specialisms.
In KS4 we currently offer GCSE Art, Craft and Design as well as 3D Design. We will be launching GCSE Photography next year and are very keen to broaden our offering to potentially include textiles, graphics and product design. The faculty benefits from having a workshop with resources for woodwork and electronics, a catering suite, computer facilities and two large art classrooms, one of which has a kiln. Candidates are welcome to visit Wolsingham School to view our facilities.
Students love to engage with the faculty both in and out of the classroom. There are many creative young people in Wolsingham School who strive for any opportunity to engage in creativity. We offer art clubs to both KS3 and KS4 students, which are very popular. We also collaborate with other faculties as well as getting involved in local community projects too.
