About the team
The successful candidate will be joining the Fleet function, a small multi-disciplinary team that supports corporate and project governance, risk management and audits of Train Operating Companies, suppliers and internal Porterbrook processes. The team is part of the Operations Directorate reporting to the Chief Operating Officer
Responsibilities
1. Contribute to the ‘Vision’ of both internal and external Porterbrook digital products
2. Discover and understand the end customer needs, translating these into business requirements and managing customer expectations to final outcomes
3. Create, develop, and manage overarching product roadmaps, defining success criteria for testing and product acceptance
4. Manage the delivery of projects and products within Porterbrook’s Digital Engineering Services team
5. Understand, research, and follow technical trends in the industry and in general whilst monitoring our competitors’ developments through regular capability analysis
6. Assess emerging products to measure their potential value or threat to the company and its products, as well as making recommendations on which new technologies to invest in or leverage
7. Serve as a product specialist
8. Management of change management processes
9. Familiarisation with Porterbrook’s code bases
10. Provide line management support to direct reports, developing them into their role and support with career development in line with the PDP and setting annual personal objectives to monitor performance
Skills and Experience
General Requirements:
Requirements for an individual who is a strategic thinker with a technical background to drive technical strategy and company/industry engagement, with the ability to have a hands-on approach when required. With a strong attention to detail and a desire for continual improvement, this role requires engagement with company and industry stakeholders so requires strong interpersonal skills and commercial awareness
Knowledge and Qualifications
11. Recognised IT qualification or related degree/higher education
12. Understanding of agile project management or agile delivery methodologies
13. Understanding of the software development lifecycle
14. Familiarity with cloud services, preferably Azure
15. Awareness of Remote Condition Monitoring products and techniques is desirable
16. Knowledge of railway industry rolling stock, organisation and players is desirable
Key Skills
17. Ability to understand and interpret code
18. Good interpersonal and people management skills.
19. Report writing, presentation and record keeping skills
20. Ability to work well within a technical environment, engaging with developers, engineers, architects, quality assurance, project management, procurement, and operations
