An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Submarines Services business for a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience designing lifting and handling equipment and/or experience of component design within the UK nuclear industry.
The Services Engineering Team are responsible for providing expertise and equipment to support the submarines enterprise. This includes the design and substantiation of high integrity equipment as well as the design and substantiation of complex assembly and tooling to support on site nuclear facility design, boat build and in-service maintenance. We are looking for a Design Engineer who will work collaboratively and cross functionally to define, substantiate and deliver to cost, and quality.
What you will be doing:
Within this role your responsibilities would include:
1. Delivery of design tasks through entire lifecycle
2. Articulating design intent through 3D modelling and 2D drawing
3. Substantiation of design through hand calculations and/or with the use of analysis software
4. Present design solutions to gated review panels, completing technical and regulatory documentation
5. Working with the project management team to ensure that schedules, risks, costs, and resource requirements are understood and maintained
6. Assist manufacturing activities within the external supply chain (this may require travel to manufacturer's facilities within the UK supply chain)
Who we're looking for:
To be successful in this role you will need to:
1. Mechanical design experience /use of hand calculations and FEA would be advantageous
2. Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, including welding/fabrication, machining and assembly
3. Previous knowledge of 3D modelling packages e.g. Siemens NX would be advantageous.
4. Design and substantiation of lifting and handling equipment
5. Experience of high integrity design
6. Knowledge of Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations
To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently have this in place.
Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
