Communications and Engagement Lead (Hope and Light)
Job Description
* Salary scale: Grade 4 (£28,753-32,753 FTE dependent on experience)
* Contract: Permanent
* Hours: 37 hours
* Base: Bradford, BD1 4QU (hybrid working available, minimum of two days per week in the office)
* Responsible to: Communications and Engagement Manager
* Pension: We operate a contributory pension scheme which you will be auto-enrolled into (subject to the conditions of the scheme).

Background:
Bradford District and Craven Mind (BDC Mind) is a thriving independent mental health organisation, making a positive difference to the mental health and wellbeing of people of all ages living in Bradford district and Craven.
In January 2024, BDC Mind and Staying Put won a joint bid to deliver mental health services to ethnically and culturally diverse communities (ECDC) in Bradford District and Craven. To ensure the services were culturally appropriate, the first year has been spent researching, collaborating, and listening to the needs of the communities we serve.
From April 2025, the Hope and Light programme of culturally responsive mental health services will be available for people from South Asian, Black African, Black Caribbean, and Central and Eastern European communities.
We’re looking for a passionate and dynamic Communications and Engagement Lead to drive awareness of the programme, build trust, and engage the communities the programme serves. Ensuring the Hope and Light brand and messaging is inclusive, culturally responsive, and community-driven.
Role Purpose:
To work alongside the Communications Managers at BDC Mind and Staying Put, and the Hope and Light Programme Director to develop and deliver communications to build trust and engage our audiences including ethnically and culturally diverse communities, system partners, and community groups.
Role Outcomes:
* Support the delivery and ongoing development of the Hope and Light communications plan with strategic direction from the Communications and Engagement Manager and Programme Director.
* Support our community and grassroots organisations to communicate services to their audiences.
* Work collaboratively with partners and people who use our services to develop communications that reach people from South Asian, Central and Eastern European, African, and Caribbean backgrounds.
* Develop accessible digital and physical communications materials for the Hope and Light audiences in a range of formats and languages.
* Monitor and evaluate the impact of communications and engagement activities, using data and feedback to improve outreach strategies.
* Effectively manage an operational communications budget to achieve objectives set out in the annual plan.
* Lead on culturally appropriate storytelling and campaign development that reflects lived experiences and diverse perspectives.
* Work with partners, system leads, and grassroots organisations to promote the programme online across key websites.
* Represent the programme at events, community forums, and stakeholder meetings to promote awareness and engagement.
* Support the wider BDC Mind communications and engagement efforts via collaborative team-working.
* Support embedding inclusive language, culturally competent messaging, and imagery across all communications.
* Support BDC Mind’s communications efforts and campaigns that aim to reach ECDC Communities.
* Fully participate in all relevant training to develop and maintain your performance in the role.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Communications / Marketing related qualification
* Degree level education or equivalent in a relevant subject (English, communications, journalism, marketing etc)
* Experience within the charity, health, or community sector
Experience
* A minimum of two years’ experience in a communications, marketing, or engagement role
* Ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders, including community groups, local media, and system partners
* Delivering an annual marketing or communications plan
* Developing digital content for website, social media, and newsletters
* Communicating impact through statistics and case studies
* Managed email marketing platform such as Mailchimp
* Created assets using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite software
* Experience of videography and photography
* WordPress or similar content management system
* Experience producing communications for ethnically or culturally diverse communities
* Experience of managing a budget
* Experience commissioning and briefing photographers, graphic designers, and freelancers.
Skills and abilities
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences
* Engage local media, write press releases
* Confidence and ability to represent the programme at meetings and events.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of different marketing and communication tools
* An understanding of mental health and wellbeing
* Understanding of communication, marketing, and social media tactics and trends
