Role
The Community Safety division is looking for exceptional and enthusiastic candidates to apply for the role of Community Safety & Corporate Resilience (CS&CR) Manager. This senior-level role oversees two important teams within the London Borough of Newham:
1. Community Safety Team: This small team of subject matter experts is responsible for the development and delivery of plans & strategies to help keep Newham’s communities safe. Areas of focus include hate crime & extremism, modern-day slavery, violent & acquisitive crime, and offender management. They will also play an instrumental role in managing the local Community Safety Partnership and work with various stakeholders including the Metropolitan Police Service, London Fire Brigade, and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime.
2. Emergency Planning & Corporate Resilience: This team of specialists is responsible for ensuring appropriate council and partnership plans are in place to deal with a wide range of foreseeable major and civil contingency incidents, including serious fires, flooding, and pandemics. The team is also responsible for testing & exercising these plans and providing training for staff who may be called upon to undertake command and other supporting roles, including on the 24/7 emergency planning rota that the team manages.
The ideal candidate for this role is a proven people leader with a good understanding of the functions they will lead, able to get the best from their staff, and can communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leaders and elected members. Please note that the post-holder, upon appointment, will be expected to join and cover gaps on the 24/7 emergency planning rota as a Silver commander – currently duties being normally 1 in 8 weeks. For this, an allowance is payable on a daily/weekly basis. For the community safety brief, occasional attendance at weekend and evening meetings is required – no additional allowances are payable in regards to this.
