The School
Twickenham Preparatory School is a leading and successful independent co-educational day school for children aged 4 to 13 situated in Hampton, South West London. The founding aim from its inception in 1969 – to establish a school with high academic standards that was pastorally strong, caring and sensitive to the needs of the individual child – is still the heartbeat of the school 50 years on, and today, Twickenham Prep provides an exceptional all-round education to c.270 pupils across Pre-Prep, Prep and boys in Years 7 & 8. Children are nurtured to fulfil their potential in a welcoming, family community, and are inspired to live out the school’s motto – to be; ‘Calm, Courageous, Courteous and Considerate.’
The Department
Sport is a vital part of the curriculum at TPS. The vision of the sports department is that we believe that each pupil should be given an opportunity to shine within sport and enjoy themselves, regardless of their ability. Each pupil will represent the School at sport and while it is competitive, it is also important for pupils to experience enjoyment and pleasure through participation.
The department consists of specialist coaches and highly qualified teachers who deliver the sports programme. The team work together to continually develop TPS sport, for the benefit of all our pupils.
Sports Facilities
Our on-site facilities include a full size astro 5 a-side football pitch/netball court. We also have a large well equipped sports hall for Basketball, Table Tennis and Gymnastics. Our home ground for rugby, football and cricket is located a few minutes drive away, at Kempton Cricket Club. The club provides the School with excellent facilities and high quality playing surfaces for training sessions and fixtures. Sitting within 10 acres of dedicated playing fields the School has access to three full size football/rugby pitches, several cricket squares and cricket nets. In addition the School holds cross country events and sports days at the club and athletics and sports days at the Xcel Centre in Walton-on-Thames.
Curriculum
Our PE and Games curriculum encompasses a variety of sports which enables pupils to experience and apply their skills to different sports.
In Pre-Prep our focus is on introducing, exploring and building skills using a wide variety of equipment and activities.
From Year 3 to Year 6, pupils learn football, short tennis, badminton, handball, volleyball, dance, gymnastics and basketball in their PE lessons.
Our girls in Year 3 to Year 6, enjoy participating in netball, hockey and cricket during their Games lessons.
Pupils swim from Year 1 to Year 5 using external facilities and outside coaches provide specialist coaching.
Throughout every lesson there is an emphasis of the importance of fitness and health, which we believe are essential for pupils well-being, during school and beyond.
Throughout the school year, we regularly compete against other schools in fixtures and tournaments. In addition our pupils enjoy competing in local and national tournaments in a wide variety of sports.
Our sports programme is also complemented by a quality co-curricular after school club programme.
