This post will be nominally based at the Grange University Hospital, however, the successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly across all the Health Board sites for service delivery sessions across all 4 sites for some of their specialty sessions and service delivery sessions.
The Hepatology team within the Gastroenterology department currently consists of 5.5 WTE Consultants with interests in Hepatology, HCC, Hepatobiliary medicine and ERCP. We have 3.5 WTE CNS working as outpatients in Hepatology, Viral Hepatitis and supporting HCC work, in addition to a multi-site fibroscan service supported by HCS. The team also work closely with Alcohol liaison nurses, Physician's Associates and dieticians and has links to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Transplant team.
Our team are proactive and dedicated to developing a high-quality liver service. ABUHB Gwent Liver Unit were the first health board in Wales to be accredited with IQILS level two, in addition our CNS home visit service is BASL award winning for innovation.
The Gwent Liver Unit is a non-transplant hepatology service that prides itself on being forward thinking and patient focused, developing new ways of working to ensure that patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time. We are keen to build on links between in and out-patient care with the development of a liver failure fellow.
Main duties of the job
This post will provide a 360-degree exposure to Hepatology as a whole and is ideally suited for an enthusiastic individual who wishes to pursue a career in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Skills acquired through this post will prove invaluable for specialist trainee applications.
The outpatient service is extremely busy and through and outpatients transformation plan new patient waiting times have reduced dramatically. However, in line with many other services, there are long waits for follow up appointments and it remains challenging to manage this whilst being responsive to the high-volume care needs of patients with Liver Failure. This role is seen as integral to the co-ordination and delivery of timely care for this complex care cohort alongside the existing clinical body.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary clinical duty of this post is two-fold:
1. To support the Registrar General Medical Rota at an eLGH.
2. To provide co-ordination and assist in the delivery of clinical care for patients with liver failure.
