An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven Operations Manager to join the senior management team at IPL’s state-of-the-art Hull site, which is projected to achieve a c£50 million turnover next year.
The Role
As Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring operational excellence across production, maintenance, and engineering functions within a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Therefore a background in engineering is essential.
Reporting directly to the Plant Director, you will drive safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement while leading and developing a high-performing team.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading and mentoring a multifunctional team (4 direct reports and broader indirect reports).
* Driving a safety-first culture and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
* Monitoring sales forecasts to optimise production and process operations.
* Developing and delivering on key performance indicators (KPIs) for operational success.
* Leading change initiatives, driving cost-saving improvements, and enhancing processes.
* Collaborating with stakeholders across the business to achieve strategic goals.
About You
We are looking for a dynamic and results-focused leader with operational management experience in manufacturing. You will have a proven track record in process improvements, budget management, and leading successful change initiatives.
Key skills and experience:
* Previous experience or background in engineering is essential to the Operations Manager role.
* Proven leadership experience within an operations leadership role in manufacturing environment, leading teams in excess of 80 colleagues.
* Experience of leading production, engineering and maintenance is essential.
* Financial acumen, including forecasting, budgeting, and CAPEX experience.
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and MRP/ERP systems (advantageous).
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience in plastics, packaging or high-volume machining type environments is highly desirable.
* A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Operations Management (preferred).
