About the role: We’re working with an exceptional special needs school in Okehampton that is seeking a skilled SEM Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school supports students across key stage 1 to key stage 4, meaning flexibility and adaptability are essential as you may be asked to work across different age groups and classes. The students you’ll be supporting have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, often accompanied by additional challenges such as autism, ADHD, attachment issues, or speech and language difficulties. Strong behaviour management, patience, and resilience will be key to success in this role. Your responsibilities will include: Providing general classroom support and leading small group interventions Offering one-to-one support where needed Collaborating closely with teachers in lesson planning, resource preparation and activity set up Prioritising the safety and wellbeing of all students, fostering a safe and supportive learning environment Ensuring students are happy, engaged and able to access their learning to reach their full potential What we’re looking for: Experience: Previous experience working with children in the UK is essential, preferably within an educational setting SEN knowledge: A strong understanding of special educational needs and strategies to support young people Personal attributes: Resilient, adaptable, hardworking and a good sense of humour Professional growth: A desire to further develop your skills and knowledge Flexibility: Ability to respond to changing plans and priorities What’s in it for you?
