Qualification: Qualified to degree level or equivalent, in a construction related discipline / Registered as a Class 3 G-H Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator
Professional Registration Body Membership: professional membership of a building control related organisation – Chartered Assoc of Building Engineers (MCABE), Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), or equivalent.
Essential Car Documentation: This post is a designated Essential Car User. Therefore, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work. You will receive the Essential Car User Allowance.

The Building Control Service in Manchester has a key role to play in the evolution of our city, ensuring our developments are compliant, safe, inclusive, sustainable and incorporate measures that reduce the impact of climate change. Following recent recruitment success to key management posts, our building control team is at the forefront of new construction projects across the city. In addition to a competitive salary, here's what you can also expect from us....
* Monthly essential-user car allowance of £83.65 (1000cc + vehicle) plus a per-mile allowance for all business miles travelled

This is an essential role that has a critical bearing upon the council's ability to meet statutory obligations for ensuring that buildings comply with relevant building safety legislation and contributes significantly to the council's resilience capabilities. The responsibilities attached to the role are commensurate with the restricted activities and functions only available to building control and reflects the high importance and regard in which Building Control is held within the authority.

About the Candidate
We would love to hear from you if you are a registered Class 3 G - H inspector, and are interested in developing your skills and enhancing your experience by working in a busy city environment.
Essential requirements for the role:
* Qualified to degree level or equivalent, in a related discipline and holds professional membership of a building control related organisation – Chartered Assoc of Building Engineers (MCABE), Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), Chartered Engineer (CEng), Institute of Structural Engineers (MIStructE) or equivalent.
* Be registered with the Building Safety Regulator as a Class 3 G - H Building Inspector
* Must possess relevant building control related knowledge and be able to demonstrate experience acquired, whilst working in a Local Authority or Registered Building Control Approver organisation
* A full UK driving licence is required
* Communication Skills: Ability to build and maintain strong networks of support both internally and externally and to forge effective partnerships with external agencies, voluntary and statutory, and key stakeholders for the continuous improvement of services. Ability to harness the full commitment and responsibility of key stakeholders in delivering the vision of excellence for the city.
* Analytical Skills: Skills to analyse a wide range of data and other sources of information to break them down into components parts, patterns and relationships: probes for further understanding of problems and makes rational judgements from the available information and analysis demonstrating an understanding of how one issue may be part of a much larger system/issue.
* Planning and Organising: Ability to maintain focus and objectivity under various conditions and skill in managing and maintaining a multi-priority workload, progressing various ideas and plans concurrently.
* Problem Solving and Decision Making: Ability to react to immediate problems of a highly complex nature with associated risk factors and deliver pragmatic solutions sometimes under extreme pressure.
* Creative Skills: Uses creative ability to find solutions and whilst considering policy and procedure is also confident in adopting (and justifying) novel or non-standard approaches.
* Financial Management: Strategic awareness of the financial structure of the Council and the implications of decisions on the delivery of value for money for tax payers.
* People Management: Effective development, management and motivation of staff within service area, providing leadership and planning for the work of a service based function or Council wide team. Establishes clear targets and monitors progress to ensure continuous improvement in service delivery.
