About the role As part of our exciting growth plans, we are looking for a Safety Engineer to join our Safety and Environmental Team. As part of the team, you will produce and deliver safety artefacts to support our defence and industry contracts. As a Safety Engineer you will be passionate about safety and providing independent and assured safety advice. You will support the delivery of safety artifacts to schedule, quality and budget, whilst meeting client and expectations. Your knowledge and experience of safety and risk management techniques, processes and concepts will allow you to support our clients in meeting their safety requirements. You will be based in Cheltenham with hybrid working but you may be required to visit or work on client sites, as required. Responsibilities Undertake work, as directed by the Safety & Environmental Lead Engineer, as part of the safety and environmental team. Produce safety artefacts following the guidance in a range of applicable standards. Deliver safety artefacts to time, cost and quality. Follow the procedures in the CDS DS Safety & Environmental Management System to the level of quality described in the Quality Management System. Support Project Safety and Environmental Panels (PSEPs) Produce Safety and Environmental Case Reports (SECRs) and Environmental Impact assessments (EIAs). Delivery of own aspects of project(s) to meet the client s needs and make the agreed level of contribution. Ensure own aspects of projects are delivered within the client s boundary and make the agreed level of margin contribution. Skills, Qualifications and Experience The successful candidate is s required to possess and display appropriate levels and understanding in the following areas: We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic team member, ideally with a UK Defence background in engineering, risk management or system safety; alternatively, experience gained within the other regulated sectors will be considered. You will have practical experience in the following areas: Development and management of hazard logs; Supporting and facilitating hazard identification and hazard review meetings; Authoring safety assessment/ safety case reports, including providing justification of the ALARP status of the product; and Ideally you will be knowledgeable in statutory safety legislation and how to attain, and manage legislation compliance. As much of our work is directly customer focused, good communication skills and the ability to present professionally both verbally and in writing are essential for this role. We also welcome your analytical thinking skills and your ability to work well in a team. You will be self-motivated with ideally a recognised technical qualification preferably in Engineering. You shall have or be working towards IEng or CEng status. You must be able to satisfy UK Ministry of Defence security requirements and able to obtain and hold Security Clearance (SC) and be willing to hold Developed Vetting (DV) if required. You must be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role.
