Job summary – What to expect:
As the Maintenance Engineer in our Engineering and Maintenance department, you will be expected to provide a range of support across the Packaging and Distribution sites. Predominantly, the role is for equipment/process support in order to ensure that all of our equipment is maintained effectively, and all breakdowns and repairs are carried out efficiently.
You will be expect to:
1. Receive and respond to requests for assistance and investigate the issue, identify what is wrong and either fix it or identify the next best solution. Prioritise requests based on current workload and standing Process or Product Priorities.
2. Record all changes made to the process or reasons for repair using the established methods.
3. If required arrange for investigation or resolution by other Engineers or by external contractors where necessary in order to ensure that all breakdowns are fully rectified in the shortest possible time.
4. In the event of a failure that requires a non-stock replacement part, identify a suitable supplier, confirm the part is of the required specification and available, order to ensure supply of the correct specification is made available as soon as possible.
5. Log on to the CVM system each day and establish what planned Maintenance must be done, access the relevant MP File and carry out the required procedures, run the equipment to confirm it is working correctly and then fill out and apply a sticker to confirm both that the maintenance was performed and the next due date.
6. Provide training for Operators to enable them to perform routine basic maintenance activities such as line set-up tasks in a safe, efficient and effective manner.
7. Monitor ongoing production activity to ensure that all safety guards, interlocks and relevant fixtures are in place and are functioning correctly.
8. Provide Specialist knowledge and its practical application and due to experience by way of engineering support for Project and Production Engineering teams during new and existing project design phases and during equipment build, testing and commissioning.
9. If an equipment issue arises in any area that represents a health and safety or product or personnel safety risk, Maintenance Engineers are responsible for identifying this appropriately and must advise the team/shift leader in order to preserve the safety of products and staff.
Requirements of the position:
10. The job is required where necessary to wear appropriate protective clothing including items such as facemasks and gloves.
11. The job must handle materials that come under COSHH guidelines.
12. The job will require climbing ladders, working with in enclosed spaces for tasks within the OSR.
13. Being able to kneel and bend to carry out many of Maintenance tasks.
Hazardous Working
14. Hydraulic control systems where major mechanical energies need to be considered.
15. Subject to the established electrical policy Live testing up to lethal voltages and other occasional tasks requiring significant PPE to be used or where significant personal risks exist.

Experience & Education:
18. An engineering apprenticeship. in one of mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering.
19. It is likely that the background required will most likely be in service engineering or in precision engineering such as a toolmaker or as an instrument engineer.
20. Specific experience in the contact lens industry is not required however experience of providing an engineering or technical support function over 3-5 years minimum in a regulated or the FMCG/High Speed Packaging industry is preferred.
21. Maths/English GCSE A to C Grade.
