Full time, permanent, required from September 2025
We are seeking to appoint an EYFS teacher to join us in September 2025 to teach in our Pre School class. You will have a good track record in teaching the EYFS curriculum in either a nursery or reception class to a high level with excellent results in children’s development and pastoral care. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic professional with experience of teaching phonics and numeracy, who is forward thinking and demonstrates evidence-based pedagogical practices and able to lead, inspire and work collaboratively with a team of equally passionate nursery assistants. Experience of leading EYFS or willingness to do so is desirable.
Ipswich Preparatory School, for pupils aged 4 –11, is the primary aged stage of Ipswich School and close links are enjoyed with the Senior School. The Lodge, built in 2018, is the School’s day care nursery (The Lodge Day Nursery) which offers outstanding childcare for children aged 3 months to 4 years. We work in partnership with families to ensure each child feels safe, secure and has plenty of opportunities to discover new adventures, learn, grow, and thrive.
Our Pre School class has a full-time qualified EYFS teacher during term-time (8am-4pm) ensuring a smooth transition to full-time school education and has a capacity of 24 3&4 year old children (September after their 3rd birthday). The spacious and well-resourced room is situated in the school’s Lower Prep building. Pre School children benefit from the use of the school’s facilities including outside play space, in-house catering team, PE/assembly hall, library and playground and some specialist teaching. Children in Prep School follow the EYFS curriculum and begin working towards the ELGs and our curriculum goes beyond this in the Reception class. Most children transition to the Prep’s Reception class and teachers work collaboratively to create a seamless EYFS curriculum between rooms.
The Nursery opens all year round (apart from Christmas week and a week in August) from 7.30am until 6.00pm and is managed by a dedicated manager and team of staff.
Pupils follow a broad and balanced curriculum. Academic achievement is high and the School has particular strengths in art, music, drama and sport. All classes, with the exception of Years 4 to 6 are generally taught by their Form Teacher, although some subjects, such as Languages, Art, Computing, Games, Music and Science are taught by teachers specially appointed to teach that subject, throughout the school. The School has Learning Support staff, a school counsellor and a good number of teaching assistants.
All staff who teach at the School make contributions to school life outside their own specialisation as well as to our co-curricular programme. The School has a strong community feel and new members of staff invariably speak of the supportiveness and friendliness of their colleagues and the pupils.
The School ensures there is healthy non-contact time for teachers (typically 20%) and has a generous EYFS teacher status salary. Applications are welcome from fully qualified teachers; however, candidates should note that this is not a main pay scale position. Consideration may be given to Early Years initial teacher training. There is currently generous fee remission of fees for children (aged 5 and above) of teaching staff, providing there are vacancies and the children fulfil the usual entry requirements. Free lunch is provided in the School Dining Hall during term time when the kitchen is in operation, and staff are able to use the School’s swimming pool and fitness gym free of charge (in compliance with appropriate rules and regulations).
