Our client is seeking a talented and dedicated Engineering Design Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the Principal Engineer or Regional Discipline Lead, you will provide high-quality engineering design services that minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. Your responsibilities include coordinating the design process, producing design documents and drawings, and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and are feasible for construction and commissioning.
2. Manage costs holistically by considering design time, material costs, erection costs, and impacts on other disciplines.
3. Maintain design quality and competitiveness using standard practices.
4. Provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals Department.
5. Support departmental development by following and improving procedures and workflows.
6. Coordinate designs with internal and external disciplines for smooth contract execution.
7. Maintain accurate records throughout contract durations.
8. Contribute to customer satisfaction by prioritizing client needs.
9. Develop a personal professional growth plan.
10. Supervise and develop department staff.
11. Promote a safe working environment and minimize waste.
12. Integrate environmental considerations into designs.
13. Ensure all designs comply with health and safety standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Proven experience in delivering process plant systems for complex water industry projects.
* Strong knowledge of motor control centers, protection systems, motor starters (including VSDs), and harmonic mitigation.
* Expertise in instrumentation, industrial communications, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
* Understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
* Experience managing and mentoring staff in water and sewage treatment plant design.
* Membership in a professional institution (chartered or near chartership).
* Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (HND minimum, degree preferred).
* Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
* Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
* Experience with digital design methods in design and construct projects.
* Ability to produce cost-effective plant layouts and rationalize designs.
* Broad knowledge of mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management in water treatment.
* Ability to analyze large data sets efficiently.
* Strong presentation skills for technical proposals.
* Proficiency in computer applications and design software.
* Full driving license required.
