The East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP) is a transformational programme with a vision to create the next generation railway that works better for people. ECDP and the deployment of European Train Control System (ETCS) brings significant change to the rail industry, with a once in a generation opportunity to transform how the railway works and is maintained for all users including On Track Machines, Freight, Charter and Heritage Operators and Passengers.
Working in partnership, Network Rail, Industry Partners, including the OTM Sector, the Government and Trades Unions, ECDP will upgrade the train control systems to create a more dynamic, more reliable, and more flexible railway. The Programme will introduce ETCS in the first instance on the East Coast Mainline South (ECML-S); i.e., between London King's Cross and Stoke Tunnel, including the Northern City Line (NCL) between Moorgate and Finsbury Park, with further program roll outs in the future.
