Position Experimental Manufacturing / Assembly Engineer Location Gillingham, Kent Position Overview Support activities to ensure that all components, products and assemblies are produced to the required quality and quantity, in the most efficient time and cost effective manner, whilst supporting the Project Management and Engineering team's project deliverables. Support the development of the team to ensure they have skills and ability to deliver their activities. Roles & Responsibilities Excellent understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing / assembly processes. Demonstrates independent judgement, shows initiative, autonomy and is able to organise their work. Is responsible for defining the manufacturing and assembly method / process required for the creation of prototype components, also assembly and creating manufacturing / assembly routing. Is responsible for building product to a defined order schedule. Is responsible for defining, ordering and manufacturing of special tooling as required. Is responsible for identifying supplementary processes required from sub-contract specialists and agreeing the process parameters/drawing features/tolerancing required to ensure compliance with engineering drawing requirements. Participates in team meetings, puts forward ideas etc. to improve processes and product quality. Writes work instructions for processes in area of responsibility. Support training plans for team members. To define the necessary supporting documentation for each works order and produce status reports when requested. To set up of process to establish first off sign off and maintain required quality standard. To define the calibration and control of all assembly equipment maintaining identification, storage location, calibration status and visual standard. To oversee the cleanliness testing facility and completion of cleanliness audits. To complete inspection and preparation of products for despatch. To ensure Risk and COSHH assessments are completed for equipment used in assembly. To define front line maintenance and basic fault diagnosis within the limits of training on equipment used. Maintain Health & Safety standard, ensuring safe working conditions and best practise processes. Ensure that the area of responsibility is compliant with PHINIA IPR (Intellectual Property Rights). Ensure the team are compliant with all PHINIA Policies and procedures. Maintain the PHINIA beliefs principles at all times. Maintain communications between all involved teams. CAPEX submissions as required to maintain the facility, people skills and machine capability to satisfy company vision. Job Authorities Authority to stop production and shipment for problem correction. Ordering of tooling and material. Skills Mandatory Excellent knowledge of engineering drawings and specifications. Excellent knowledge of a variety of assembly techniques and processes. Ability to use a variety of measuring techniques and types of equipment. Ability to design assembly fixturing to enable assembly processes. Desirable Good IT skills e.g Microsoft Office. Familiar with use of CAD models/ Solid Works or similar. Awareness of British and International standards relating to metrology. Familiar with use of control plans and production of components to the drawing. Experience of working in a proto-type small batch environment. Experienced in GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) Attributes Honesty and integrity. Experience & Qualifications Mandatory Apprenticeship or experience in Mechanical Engineering. An excellent understanding of engineering principles and assembly processes. Data collection to qualify products / components as part of a quality system. Desirable Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in a suitable engineering or business discipline. HNC or other Engineering qualification. Experience of working in a proto-type small batch environment.
