Protocol Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) specialist unit within a mainstream school in Central Bristol.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in supporting non-verbal pupils and a passion for inclusive education.
About the Role:
You’ll be working closely with a small group of pupils within a dedicated ASC unit, providing tailored support to meet individual needs. Responsibilities include:
* Supporting children with ASD, particularly those who are non-verbal or have limited verbal communication.
* Using tools such as PECS, Makaton, and visual supports to aid communication and understanding.
* Helping to create a safe, predictable, and engaging learning environment.
* Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and specialist professionals.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Experience working with children with ASD in an SEN or specialist setting.
* Understanding of sensory processing needs and behaviour that challenges.
* Confidence in or willingness to learn communication methods such as Makaton (training is desirable but not essential).
* A calm, patient, and flexible approach to supporting individual needs.
* Relevant TA/SEN qualifications are beneficial but not required.
