This role is for a Band 7 Sepsis nurse specialist role within Paediatrics.
The Paediatric Sepsis Specialist Nurse will be a Trust wide role, providing clinical leadership, education and training to improve the outcomes for patients with sepsis. The role will include raising awareness of sepsis, ensuring early recognition, assessment and interventions through clinical education and direct clinical support. The post holder will be instrumental in the delivery of trust wide multi-disciplinary teaching. They will be a driver of qualitative, innovative, productive, safe evidence-based nursing care, which promotes best practice and best outcomes for patients and will act as a clinical expert and resource for members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Visibility and awareness - coordinating a trust wide sepsis communication strategy.
Training - ensure we have a consistent mandatory training across all areas, develop e-learning materials, deliver face-to-face and simulation training.
Documentation - looking at digital solutions with Screening of sepsis tied to National Early Warning Score (NEWS and PAWS) scores.
Staff empowerment - Frontline staff will be engaged in improvement cycles and development of new ideas to support improvement with sepsis.
Assurance - As well as coordinating providing audit data by specialty, the nurse will provide regular feedback to all clinicians involved in the audited patients' care to encourage reflection on performance. Sepsis performance figures will be presented monthly to the sepsis committee and escalated to trust executive and governance meetings.
Culture change - this role will support leaders to change the culture regarding the importance of sepsis recognition. Look at developing local personal stories sharing their experiences and illustrating the need for early recognition and aggressive management.
