Laboratory Manager – PC2 Facility (Cell Culture & Electrophysiology)

To support our continued innovation, we are seeking a Laboratory Manager to oversee our PC2-certified research facility in Melbourne, Australia. This role is ideal for a driven scientist with expertise in cell culture, electrophysiology, and laboratory management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Laboratory Operations & Compliance:
o Manage daily operations of Cortical Labs’ PC2-certified facility, ensuring compliance with key regulatory requirements.
o Maintain rigorous biosafety, risk assessment, and ethical compliance for our ongoing work.
o Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of critical laboratory equipment.
o Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficiency and safety in experimental workflows.
2. Cell Culture & Electrophysiology:
o Oversee MEA-based electrophysiology experiments, ensuring data integrity and reproducibility.
o Provide training and support for researchers in operating key laboratory equipment.
3. Resource & Team Management:
o Manage lab consumables, reagent procurement, and budget tracking to support ongoing research activities.
o Coordinate laboratory workflows to ensure seamless integration of biological and computational experiments.
o Engage with external stakeholders, suppliers, and scientific collaborators to enhance research capabilities.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
* Honours degree or higher in Neuroscience, Laboratory Medicine, Cell Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
* Detailed understanding of biosafety and regulatory compliance for working with genetically modified cells.
* Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Proven track record of team leadership and laboratory management.
* Strong expertise in multi-electrode array (MEA) or patch-clamp electrophysiology.
* Hands-on experience with iPSC-derived neuronal differentiation.
* Knowledge of optogenetics, calcium imaging, or high-throughput screening techniques.
* Familiarity with automated cell culture systems, AI-integrated biosystems, or neurotechnology applications.
* Prior experience in startups or interdisciplinary teams working at the intersection of biology and computing.
* 2+ years of experience in a PC2-certified laboratory specializing in mammalian cell culture.
