We are seeking an outstanding and passionate Teacher of Design Technology to join our thriving, high-performing department. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a forward-thinking school, inspiring students through cutting-edge design, problem-solving, and innovation.
Our team consists of three specialist Design Technology teachers and two technicians. We focus on Product Design, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, user-centred design, and real-world problem-solving. Students study Design Technology as a discrete subject at Key Stage 3; we offer AQA GCSE Design Technology at Key Stage 4, and AQA A Level Design Technology Product Design in Sixth Form.
Our state-of-the-art facilities include multiple laser cutters, 3D printers, and vinyl cutters; a full suite of traditional manufacturing equipment, including metal casting, brazing and welding bays, milling machines, center lathes, and woodworking tools; plastic forming and fabrication machinery; each workshop is stocked with hand tools, essential machinery like pillar drills and belt sanders, and a variety of cordless power tools to support diverse fabrication needs. Students in Key Stages 3 and 4 all have school iPads and Sixth Form students have school MacBooks; we use Google Workspace for Education, and also 2D Design and Solidworks as part of our CAD provision.
The Senior Leadership Team is strongly supportive of our progressive curriculum in Design Technology: an important part of the School’s long-term strategy intended to prepare students with the skills they need to flourish in the modern world. The successful candidate will benefit from extensive professional development opportunities, including our sector-leading practitioner enquiry programme, leadership training, and other CPD sessions focused on emerging technologies and pedagogy.
We prioritise the health, safety, and wellbeing of students and staff. To support this, the school provides extensive training as part of the DATA (Design and Technology Association) health and safety training scheme, ensuring every team member is confident and competent in operating machinery and promoting safe working practices.
The successful candidate will also be expected to assist in the support offered to students outside the classroom, including in the workshops after school and the occasional Saturday practical coursework session. Furthermore, all teaching staff are expected to participate fully in the wider life of the School through co-curricular involvement.
Brentwood School has its own pay scale that is significantly above the maintained sector and we also have a range of subsidised staff accommodation that may be available for the successful applicant should they need to relocate.
Brentwood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
