We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Operations Director to join and work within the Cementation Skanska Limited leadership team to oversee and lead our operational delivery activities across Scotland, North of England (A66 boundary) and Ground Engineering., The Operations Director will play a pivotal role in securing, managing and delivering our piling, ground engineering and extended offering projects to time, cost and to the necessary quality / contractual requirements whilst ensuring the highest level of safety and environmental standards. The role will be instrumental in updating and streamlining Cementation's operating processes and procedures which in turn will help to facilitate the Cementation 2027 Business Plan and growth strategy. What you'll do:
* Lead and manage the overall operations of Cementation Skanska, overseeing multiple projects across Scotland, North of England and Ground Engineering simultaneously.
* With extensive and demonstrable piling and ground engineering technical knowledge / expertise, actively lead the operational delivery of projects managing wide and diverse project teams.
* Relentlessly drive the highest safety, wellbeing and environmental standards across our operations and continuously seek for improvements.
* Provide strategic direction and leadership to the piling and ground engineering operations / delivery teams.
* Actively participate and lead the operations, preconstruction, design and commercial teams in identifying and winning work to meet the necessary commercial returns and business forecasts.
* Challenge and promote alternative thinking to securing work through longer term relationships and alternative contracting models.
* Work closely with other Skanska Operating Units to develop and build relationships to enable more efficient and a more streamlined internal working model for the future.
* Coordinate and foster strong relationships with all project stakeholders, including clients, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers, to ensure effective collaboration and project progress.
* Team Leadership: supervise, mentor, and motivate project teams, including project directors, engineers, supervisors, plant operators and piling operatives to achieve project goals.
* Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
* Ensure clear roles and responsibilities are in place for all project teams and ensure any instances of poor/non-performance are dealt with in a timely and proactive manner.
* Actively lead and drive continuous improvement in the management of quality across all areas of the business.
* Engage with cross OU business development / improvement initiatives but also actively identify and drive continuous improvement within in Cementation Skanska
* Work closely with all areas of the business to ensure the most optimum and efficient delivery of multiple schemes with competing resource, plant and capex pressures.
* Work as in integral member of the Cementation Leadership Team delivering the business' growth ambitions in line with the Cementation 2027 business plan.
* Actively lead the business in its drive to digitise of our operations and develop the company works management system for piling, ground engineering and fabrications (plus potential complimentary works in the future)
* Oversee the company wide review and update/streamlining of all CSL operations processes and procedures to drive efficiencies and standardisation.
* Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence throughout the organisation.
Work closely with the HR, resourcing and L&D teams to identify and coordinate the recruitment, training and development of high performing teams. What you'll bring to the role
* Thorough knowledge of piling and ground engineering techniques, construction methodologies, and relevant industry standards applicable to piling and ground engineering
* Experience where possible of delivering complimentary civil engineering works either by self-delivery or by sub-contracting.
* Excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively manage teams and collaborate with stakeholders.
* Thorough understanding and strong application of health, safety, and environmental standards / regulations in delivering our works.
* Proficient in project management software and tools.
* Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
* Relevant certifications / qualifications in geotechnical / civil engineering or other relevant construction related field are desirable.
* Effective and experienced people manager/leader
* Strategic thinker who is capable of taking a concept through to physical implementation
* Proven track record of successfully leading and managing complex and high value piling and ground engineering projects within budget and to programme.
