Newcastle GPServices (NGPS) is an ambitious and innovative membership organisation, providing support to 27 GP Practices across Newcastle. A small, friendly and professional team based in Gosforth, we deliver a range of services, including GP cover across Urgent Treatment Centres, mobile outreach clinics, Enhanced Access, managing a primary care staff bank, as well as providing financial and administrative assistance to five of the seven Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in the city. Our mission is to ensure that the voice of Newcastle Primary Care is heard, and that we work on behalf of our members to deliver services at the right scale.

The UTCs (Urgent Treatment Centres) are run as a Newcastle Alliance with NGPS, NUTH, NEAS and Totally. NGPS are responsible for providing GP cover into Molineux Street, Ponteland Road and Westgate Road UTC (currently running from Molineux Street).
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Governance Lead will provide support to the Urgent Care Service. This role will contribute to robust governance arrangements within the organisation to ensure our GPs working in the local Urgent Care Service are performing their role according to what is required to deliver a safe and efficient service and ensure the organisation is delivering a GP workforce that helps them work to meet contractual requirements. The postholder will enhance the quality of services and support future service development, including the following duties:
* Annual notes audit and review
* Overview of performance management of GPs
* Provide supervision and professional oversight of the work of all clinicians in the UTC
* Oversight of the recruitment/interviewing processes
* Dealing with clinical complaints
* Liaising with locums to resolve issues
* Attending meetings with NuTH
* Supporting Urgent Care Service Delivery Manager with the above
* Be proactive in the planning of any new service
* Attend meetings with Urgent Care stakeholders
* To research examples of good practice and innovation in relation to urgent care, recommending if and how these can be applied by NGPS GPs
* To coordinate activity relating to risk management of GPs working in Urgent Care Services organisation.
* Development and delivery of training for bank GPs

Job responsibilities
Lead on NGPS's quality and clinical arrangements safety and risk management for NGPS GPs working in Urgent Care settings.
Monitor and coordinate the investigation of adverse events occurring within Urgent Care settings for NGPS.
Promote an open and fair culture for GPs to ensure that incident reporting is encouraged, and lessons are learnt, focusing on corrective solutions.
Do clinical audits and promote evidence-based best practice for GPs.
Assist in the dissemination of patient safety related information through the monthly newsletter to GPs.
Support and advise the Urgent Care Service Delivery Manager on recruitment, interviewing and setting compliance standards for GPs.
To help set high expectations and standards for NGPS GPs to work towards striving to ensure that patients receiving care from an NGPS service can expect a high quality and safe experience.
Work with the Urgent Care Service Delivery Manager to manage complaints, incidents, serious incidents and quality and safety, and embed learning across the service.
Support external relationships with the Lead Clinical Director, including ICB, CQC, NuTH and any other collaborations with other organisations.
Support Lead Clinical Director and Head of Clinical Services with relevant external insurance companies to manage litigations across GP related clinical areas.
Work with NuTH to oversee Health and Safety compliance for GPs.
Support the Urgent Care Service Delivery Manager to capture relevant content for the monthly newsletter to GPs, as well as disseminate new clinic processes and patient safety related information in a timely manner.
Supporting the Lead Clinical Director with risk management and reporting to the Board.
Proactively support service leads in identifying governance training needs for NGPS GPs.
Be a Freedom to Speak up Champion, raising awareness about the importance of speaking up, listening up, supporting staff to raise concerns at the earliest opportunity.
Responsible for ensuring timely notification of incidents to the organisations quality and governance team so that they can be reported to statutory bodies within statutory timescales.
Collaborate on NGPS's patient experience arrangements and strengthen GP duties across all Urgent Care sites to ensure that the patients experience is at the heart of service delivery and development.

Qualifications
* Fully Qualified GP MRCGP for at least 3 years
* GMC full registration and currently on a performers list
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

* Possess a valid UK work permit (if appropriate)
* Higher postgraduate educational activities in relevant fields
