St Benedicts Catering Department require 2 food service assistants who have a flexible approach to work and work routines. Some weeks additional hours will be available for holiday cover etc. Please see below for shifts and hours. We require cover across 7 days per week to include weekend working along with Bank Holidays. The successful candidate will be expected to be flexible in their approach to shifts and shift patterns. Additional overtime hours are often available. Full training is provided.
Post 1: Working 7 days on shift starting on a Friday your hours of work would be 8.30am - 12.30pm then 7 days off shift. To return to work on a Friday working 7 days on shift and your hours of work would then be 1.30pm - 5.30pm.
Post 2: Working 7 days on shift starting your shift on a Friday your hours of work would be 1.30pm - 5.30pm then 7 days off shift. To return to work the following Friday 1.30pm - 5.30pm, Saturday & Sunday 8.30am - 12.30pm, Monday to Thursday 1.30pm - 5.30pm.

Main duties of the job
To complete daily food service tasks at St Benedicts Hospice, Sunderland. To ensure the patient, staff and visitor meal service is provided in a safe, clean and hygienic environment. Ensure high standards of cleanliness are met and maintained.
* Ensure that all food supplies which are delivered are checked following the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).
* Be flexible on a day to day basis moving area to area and across departments (within catering).
* Deep cleaning.
* Assist with food preparation as necessary and as requested.
* Liaise with supervisors and managers.

Job responsibilities
To complete daily food service tasks to Trust locations. To ensure the patient, staff and visitor meal service is provided in a safe, clean and hygienic environment. Ensure high standards of cleanliness are met and maintained.
* Understand the International Dysphasia Diet Standardisation (IDDSI) descriptors which will assist the safe service to patients who require a modified diet.
* Ensure that all food supplies which are delivered are checked following the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).
* Record food temperatures as directed by the FSMS.
* Be flexible on a day to day basis moving area to area and across departments (within catering).
* Operate cash registers and card payment machines, complete cash declaration sheets.
* Ensure stock rotation is followed.
* Assist with food preparation as necessary and as requested.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Basic Numeracy and Literacy education.
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
Experience
* Good understanding of catering services.
* Catering Experience.
* Experience of working in a healthcare environment.
* Experience in production environment.
* Experience of cash/card payment handling.
* Previous experience in dealing with the public.
Physical Skills
* Combination of bending/lifting/standing and walking with frequent requirement for physical effort.
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to accept and prioritise instructions.
* Previous knowledge of catering environment.
