Job Description
Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based at two beautiful locations on the Suffolk coast: The Red House, Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings.
Snape Maltings Concert Hall is the home of the Aldeburgh Festival, which in 2024 celebrated its 75th anniversary, and attracts internationally renowned artists featured in our year-round performance programme. Young and emerging artists feature in regular masterclasses and open sessions, and "Summer at Snape" has become an established month-long event for visitors.
The focus of this newly created role is to deliver an exceptional visitor experience to all audience members - whether they are long-standing or new to us. Leading and embedding a visitor-first culture within the volunteer team is an essential part of this role, together with ensuring that volunteers are fully trained and rostered appropriately. The scope of this role includes recruiting new volunteers, leading the team at events, many of which take place in the evening, responding to incidents or visitor feedback and administration. It offers an excellent opportunity to find out more about working in an Arts environment.
The role is based at Snape Maltings but some travel and support to other locations within Suffolk will also be required.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver an exceptional visitor experience.
2. Lead and embed a visitor-first culture within the volunteer team.
3. Ensure volunteers are fully trained and rostered appropriately.
4. Recruit new volunteers.
5. Lead the team at events, including evenings.
6. Respond to incidents or visitor feedback.
7. Manage administrative tasks related to the role.
Minimum Requirements:
* Experience of working with volunteers, ideally in a visitor/customer context.
* People management experience and skills.
* Excellent customer service and communication skills.
* Confident IT and efficient admin skills.
* Availability to work in the evenings and at weekends (scheduled in advance).
* A willingness to undertake first aid, security and other training.
This is a part-time role working 21 hours per week (0.6FTE).
Britten Pears Arts aims to continue the legacy of composer Benjamin Britten and his partner, singer Peter Pears, to develop talent, celebrate their heritage and engage with communities, making the arts “useful.”
