In this dynamic role, you will lead and expand the Union’s commercial operations, ensuring financial sustainability, compliance, and outstanding service quality. Your strategic vision, leadership, and business acumen will be key to enhancing the student experience and driving long-term growth.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As the Commercial Operations Manager, you will:
* Oversee and enhance the daily operations of The Haxby and The Buttery bars, ensuring exceptional service, efficiency, and compliance.
* Develop and implement innovative revenue-generating strategies to expand commercial income.
* Manage budgets and financial performance, ensuring profitability and cost-effectiveness.
* Lead, train, and develop teams, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
* Ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and GDPR requirements.
* Collaborate with key stakeholders, ensuring commercial services align with student needs and Union priorities.
* Explore new business opportunities, driving continuous improvement and expansion of SU services.
What We’re Looking For:
* Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience in commercial/business management.
* Proven experience in managing commercial operations with a strong financial oversight track record.
* Demonstrated ability to develop revenue streams and achieve financial targets.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire teams.
* Proficiency in IT systems, including Microsoft Office and POS systems.
* Experience in a Students’ Union or student-focused environment.
* Knowledge of licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and ethical business practices.
* A Personal License for alcohol sales (or willingness to obtain upon appointment).
