What we’re looking for...
AG Barr are looking for an Electrical Control Engineer to support and enhance the functionality of PLC/HMI and Process automation technology with Britain’s best loved soft drinks manufacturer.
As part of our commitment to world-class engineering and technology, we’re building on our current PLC/HMI and Process automation effort. Lending your expertise in all kinds of ways, you’ll help us achieve our ambitions across Production lines, Ancillary services, Warehousing and Blending operations. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you’ll ensure assets are operating to their optimum efficiency to maximise output and ensure targets are consistently met. Your knowledge and expertise will span everything from PLC/HMI programme analysis, through to industrial PC work and software adjustment.
You will work a day shift, with the flexibility to support emergency call outs when required. Your focus will be to increase line outputs, minimise machine downtime, and make cost-saving improvements. You’ll also be responsible for carrying out site-wide maintenance, diagnosing faults and repairing breakdowns.

Your responsibilities will include...
As an Electrical Electrical Control Engineer your responsibilities will include;
1. Implementing planned maintenance programmes and schedules recommending improvements where appropriate, to ensure efficiencies are maximised.
2. Analysing line efficiency, wastage and downtime data with a view to identifying areas for performance improvement.
3. Carrying out fault diagnosis and repair breakdowns promptly to ensure downtime is minimised.
4. Working closely with and supporting the Project Engineering Team to deliver key critical elements of the business CAPEX plan. Including identifying and managing electrical controls aspects of all new installations, upgrades, retrofits, and CI projects.
5. Development of PLC/Network standard to support IT/OT infrastructure with new projects.
6. Act as a SME and maintain a high standard of control over Management of Change processes internally and when dealing with vendors.
7. Carrying out all duties in accordance with safe working practices and factory hygiene standards. Specifically providing a deeper understanding of safety systems and automation to the engineering and projects teams.
8. Producing detailed written reports when and where required downtime sheets and line log books.
9. Consulting manufacturers manuals & reading detailed technical drawings to identify and validate replacement part requirements.
10. Mentoring and training others in PLC, HMI, automated applications and programming, including the development of training materials.
11. Liaising with external suppliers and contractors relating to automation control, software validation and development, while acting as a point of contact/permit holder on site where required in order to maintain compliance and validate works.
12. Creating and maintaining a comprehensive library of asset data which will guide and define our overarching software architecture.
13. Continually researching and keeping pace with cutting edge developments to ensure asset software is compliant and meets all legislative standards.
What you’ll bring...
The successful candidate will have;
14. Been educated to minimum HNC level or equivalent in an Electrical engineering discipline, with a minimum of 5 years experience in Engineering control and automation.
15. Preferably experienced within a multi skilled food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
16. In depth knowledge of computerised maintenance systems and processes.
17. Proven knowledge and experience of initiating and implementing continuous improvements, lean manufacturing and Six sigma techniques.
18. Experience of working on Siemens S7 PLC’s and TIA Portal
19. Ability to communicate within smart factory / industry environments.
20. Knowledge of Profibus/ASIbus and Ethernet networking systems.
21. Strong understanding of Servo Drives and associated controls.
22. Familiarity with Variable Speed Drives.
23. Possess programming skills in relation to Fanuc Robot Systems.
24. Ability to Programme and “Back Up” HMI’s using proprietary software
25. Attention to detail - with a real focus on accuracy, will work hard to ensure a right first time approach and will have the ability to spot discrepancies and inaccuracies with ease.
26. Completer finisher - will adopt a logical and methodical approach and can be relied upon not to give up and to see jobs through from start to finish.
27. Problem-solver - tenacious and will use creativity, innovation and an analytical approach to exhaust all options until a satisfactory solution is found.
28. Ability to work well under your own supervision.
29. A proactive attitude with a flair for quick and efficient learning which equips you well to adapt to the latest emerging technologies.
