The maternity department at Whipps Cross University Hospital is a busy unit with 4000 births in 2023/2024 deliveries. The service has just completed a programme of building work to modernize the maternity unit and create an alongside womens centre where women with the full spectrum of obstetric and gynaecological issues can be seen in specialist clinics. The Gynaecology department had just over 10,000 first outpatient appointments provided and 483 electives and 755 emergency cases delivered in theatre. The BSCCP Accredited Colposcopy unit receives just over 1250 referrals per year, providing a diagnostic and treatment service. The unit participates and is interested in research. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in this busy and progressive unit supporting existing emergency gynaecology unit and outpatient gynaecological procedures. There is a 12-bed high risk delivery suite with 2 additional HDU beds. There are 2 new obstetric theatres with a designated recovery suite. There is anaesthetic presence 24 hours a day and a team of obstetric anaesthetic consultants who work alongside the obstetric/ midwifery teams. The Lilac Birth Centre is an alongside midwifery led unit where low risk women can choose to give birth and there are additional home birth and case loading teams to support choice in place of birth and continuity of care as per Better Births recommendations.
