Description:
Experienced and enthusiastic design engineer required to design and develop products and tooling using the Creo Parametric design package within a global market leading solutions environment.
Our client has been established for almost 40 years and are recognised market leaders in the design and development, manufacture and distribution of an impressive portfolio of electrical cabling and connection solutions for supply throughout the world. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to complement their dynamic and professional team.
The successful Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of products and tooling, as well as implementing improvements to the manufacturing and assembly processes on an ongoing basis.
Reporting to the Design Manager and working within core values of the business, the Design Engineer will be tasked with delivering improved efficiency and reducing downtime on a range of products and processes. Responsibilities include investigating and undertaking analysis on how to improve existing tooling or components, summarising scientific and engineering principles in an easy to understand manner, and writing supporting technical reports. Presenting information using PowerPoint will cover the concept, specification, and development of new tooling components.
As a Design Engineer, you will undertake CAD model creation, prototyping, and appropriate testing. You will perform essential material stress-strain analysis calculations and DFMEA/PFMEA analysis, identifying new systems and processes to drive quality, efficiency and save costs while communicating effectively with clients, colleagues, and contractors involved at various stages of projects.
You will plan effectively to ensure projects are delivered on time, to standard, and within budget. Rigorous evaluation of manufacturing processes will be required, alongside researching and developing solutions to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, waste, and scrap, while ensuring consistent repeatable processes and product quality are maintained.
Working with coordinators and operatives to implement new machines and procedures, you will provide manufacturing support and information for all processes. Responsibilities include undertaking CAD drawing creation, review, and storage, as well as press tooling and fixture design. You will generate and maintain product and process data, train others, and maintain relationships with vendors for equipment and solutions, as well as perform New Product Development, testing, and research as necessary.
Minimum Requirements:
To be considered for this varied and challenging Design Engineer role, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will demonstrate at least 4+ years of previous experience in a Design Engineer role and will realistically be qualified to Degree / HND / HNC level or above in a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering discipline. Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of products is required, along with SAP / ERP experience and essential experience of 3D CAD (CREO Parametric preferred) used in tooling or jig and fixture design. Knowledge of metal manufacturing processes and of ferrous and non-ferrous metals will prove distinctly advantageous.
