This is a replacement post for a Consultant Respiratory physician with a specialist interest in interstitial lung disease. We would welcome candidates with a defined sub-specialty expertise in interstitial lung disease but also those candidates prepared to develop this as their sub-specialty area of expertise The job will comprise a mixture of inpatient care and outpatient clinics along with day case bronchoscopy lists. Successful applicants will be supported in developing the service according to their experience, in particular, expanding the service with an ILD CNS and involvement with Oxford and the evolving anti-fibrotic service. There will be considerable opportunity to be involved in service development, participation in clinical research and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Respiratory Medicine is based out of the Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH) site in Reading within our own self-contained department providing a comprehensive range of outpatient services inclusive of full respiratory physiology support and clinical nurse specialists. We also provide consultant clinics and community diagnostics at West Berkshire Hospital (Newbury), Bracknell Healthspace (Brants Bridge) and Townlands Memorial Hospital (Henley). We have an inpatient unit with 50 beds, including eight beds within a Respiratory Support Unit. We also have a purpose built pleural procedure room on the ward for elective and non-elective pleural lists. The interstitial lung disease service at the RBH is a busy sub-speciality service with excellent potential for growth. The post holder will work closely with Oxford as our tertiary centre with the future aim to have greater involvement in the delivery of anti-fibrotic medications with the potential of us becoming a tier 2 ILD centre. Along with weekly ILD clinics, there is a bi-monthly joint rheumatology-respiratory ILD clinic. There is a monthly ILD MDT run with thoracic radiologists with a specialist interest in interstitial lung disease, along with a separate rheumatology ILD MDT. The post holder will also attend the Oxford ILD MDT allowing for smooth referral pathways for review for anti-fibrotics.
