Job overview
A unique and exciting fixed term secondment opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to be appointed as a Research Finance and Costings Manager.

This role will suit a self-motivated individual with strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, the ability to think laterally and work with minimal day to day supervision.
Main duties of the job
The key duties are as follows:
1. To be responsible for the financial management of the commercial related income that is received by the Health and Care Research Wales Support and Delivery Centre by developing and implementing robust financial processes and transparent reporting.
2. Support the Senior Funding, Finance and Contracts Manager by contributing to the wider NHS R&D finance and costings work programme which includes supporting the development, updating and implementation of national standardised NHS R&D finance and costings policies, facilitating cost recovery mechanisms for NHS research and supporting the implementation of income distribution models.
The post is fixed term / secondment for 2 years due to funding.

Qualifications
* Postgraduate qualification in a health/social care discipline, research or management, or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Project management experience in a relevant setting
* Specialised knowledge of R&D finance in a Health/Social care setting
* Specialist knowledge in applying the following accounting concepts – budgeting, financial planning, costing, variance analysis and financial reporting
* Knowledge of costing commercial research in the UK
* A good understanding of NHS R&D finance and costing policies in Wales and across the UK, to include commercial studies
* Knowledge of current national systems and structures for the funding and support of commercial clinical research in the NHS
Experience
* Significant experience of working at a managerial level in relevant setting, including experience in managing teams
* Experience of costing commercial studies and implementing successful cost recovery and income distribution mechanisms for NHS research
* Significant experience in working with multidisciplinary teams and cross-organisational working
* Experience in developing and delivering high quality training
* Specialist knowledge and extensive experience in the practical application of R&D finance policies
* Proven interpersonal skills to work with colleagues at all levels across a range of organisations
* Ability to communicate highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, both orally and in writing, both internally to colleagues and externally to a range of audiences
* Ability to prepare and deliver presentations and reports to a high standard
* Ability to analyse complex information and the ability to make judgements
* Ability to analyse information and problems, including complex problems and to offer relevant solutions
* Self-motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to think laterally and work with minimal day-to-day supervision
