Based | London Waterloo / hybrid. ⭐Purpose | Your expertise will directly contribute to decarbonising schools. ⌚ Full-time | 40 hours per week (9am-6pm) Salary | £45,000 - £50,000 Our client, RAFT: Retrofit Action for Tomorrow, is looking for a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with expertise in building services design to support the development of low-carbon heating systems for school retrofit projects. From on-site assessments to delivering cost-effective solutions, you’ll ensure systems like heat pumps, MVHR, and hot water systems integrate seamlessly into retrofit designs while aligning with Passivhaus standards. This is an unique chance to be part of impactful projects that are decarbonizing schools and transforming educational spaces. It is a hands-on role where you’ll tackle heat loss calculations, equipment and pipework sizing, and collaborate with architects and building managers to deliver sustainable solutions that make a real impact. The broad responsibilities will be to Design and deliver mechanical building services systems, including heat pumps, MVHR, and hot water systems. Conduct heat loss calculations, equipment sizing, and pipework design using tools like IES, Hevacomp, and PHPP. Visit schools to assess feasibility, integration, and affordability of designs. Collaborate with architects and clients, mentoring others on mechanical services and energy efficiency. Consider electrical capacity for heat pumps including load testing. Ability to complete PV assessments and lighting design is desirable. We expect you will be: A Chartered Mechanical Engineer with 2 years’ experience. Proficient in IES, Hevacomp, PHPP, and CAD. Experienced in heat loss calculations, equipment sizing, and mechanical services design. Familiar with Passivhaus standards (we will support this knowledge development). Practical, collaborative, and passionate about sustainability. An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
