We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Audiologist/Clinical Scientist. NWAFT Audiology provides a wide range of routine and complex diagnostic and rehabilitation services to adults and children in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough & South Lincolnshire. The post is mainly based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital; however, there may be some cross-site working to meet service needs. The post holder will work in conjunction with the Audiology Service Manager, Clinical Scientists, Senior Audiologists, Audiology Assistants, and administration staff. You will be undertaking a range of clinical activities and supervising other staff such as assistant audiologists and students. This role involves being able to perform complex adult audiology, including being able to undertake objective testing (OAES, ERA/ABR), Speech testing, and Vestibular assessments.
The role also involves general departmental administrative duties and service development. The post holder will be expected to have high professional standards.
Main duties of the job
1. To support a Vestibular and adult service and potentially including Physiological measurement of hearing in children less than 6 months of age including Hearing aid fitting for infants and young children.
2. To perform, interpret and report on routine and complex auditory testing on adults and children.
3. Routine and complex hearing aid selection fitting and rehabilitation including verification of fitting. To assess the patient's need for hearing aids, based on the assessment and diagnostic test results and select the most appropriate hearing aids and prescription formulae in line with national and departmental protocols, but with an understanding of when these cannot be adhered to.
4. Diagnostic vestibular investigations on patients of all ages.
5. Vestibular Rehabilitation on suitable patients.
6. Undertakes aural impressions, fitting, and modification of ear moulds.
7. Develop and implement an individual rehabilitation program, based on evaluation of the assessment at assessment appointments, including advising on communication strategies, hearing aids, assistive listening devices, and auditory training, or referral to the appropriate clinician. Carry out aural rehabilitation on patients with additional disabilities. Offer tinnitus counselling.
8. To formulate appropriate management strategies based on this information.
9. To provide audiological cover for ENT clinics, consisting of basic pure-tone, impedance and tympanometry as required.
10. Daily interaction with all members of the Audiology team, communication as necessary with multi-disciplinary teams.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* MSc in Audiological Science or equivalent OR MSc level of expertise in a specialist area of audiology with BSC in Audiology or equivalent qualification.
* STP, HTS in Adult Rehabilitation, Vestibular Assessment and Rehabilitation, CAC, or equivalent experiential.
* Registered as Clinical Physiologist in Audiology (RCCP) OR Clinical Scientist in Audiology (HCPC) OR registered with Academy for Healthcare Scientists (AHCS).
* CPD portfolio.
Desirable
* Qualification in Tinnitus Counselling.
Experience
Essential
* Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the ear and balance systems.
* Competent and experienced in performing complex audiology assessments including history taking, performing age appropriate hearing tests, ear examination, debriefing the parent/carer and agreeing an individual management plan.
* Experience in Vestibular Assessment & Rehabilitation.
Desirable
* Experience of supervision of others.
* Experience of using Eclipse for electrophysiological testing (VEMPS, ABR, OAEs & ASSR).
* Experience of AuditBase.
