Our lighting design and manufacturing company client has sites in Manchester, London or Basingstoke across the UK and they are looking to expand their Design Team by recruiting an additional experienced Lighting Designer. As someone with a minimum of 2 years industry experience, you will have experience of designing lighting using AutoCAD and Relux.
The role is 80% hands-on design and 20% project-based, with customer site visits and meetings. The role offers a variety of commercial lighting projects, designing the actual lights and control systems for these lights also. Working in a close team of 6 people across the sites, supporting multiple projects makes for an interesting role with great hybrid working.
Purpose of Role
Role reports into the UK Project and Design Manager and works within a small dedicated team, closely supporting regional design offices and the external sales team by providing lighting and control designs, associated plots, and presentations/quotations for projects. Also providing any external assistance to the factories and technical teams where required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Daily project work, day-to-day running of the lighting office.
2. Provide lighting and control scheme designs, associated plots, CAD drawings and presentations for projects.
3. Scheme designing using Relux.
4. Creating and editing lighting layout and controls drawings using AutoCAD.
5. To provide assistance and technical support to external sales and technical teams.
6. Lead on major design projects, coordinating with the customer, contractor, and consultant to define and implement full project solutions to meet specification and budget requirements.
7. Provide detailed information in the form of count-ups, luminaire schedules, technical submissions, and O&M manuals.
8. As a key team member, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support the sales functions in delivering high levels of customer service.
9. Any other duties as specified by the Design Manager.
10. Adhere to any health and safety practices required.
Essential Requirements
1. Skills: Computer literacy skills, including but not exclusive to Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Relux, Dialux, etc.
2. Experience: Relevant lighting design experience in either a Manufacturer or Building Services consulting role.
3. Qualification(s): Industry lighting qualifications such as CIBSE/SLL/LIF/LIA certification (or relevant demonstrable experience).
Preferred Skills & Experience
Knowledge of working with CRM systems is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.
Fast-paced, attention to detail required, small group, autonomy, and accountability. Thinking outside the box and problem-solving is sometimes required. Working on multiple projects at any one time with tight deadlines.
Person Specification
Being an integral part of a structured lighting design team working from the regional offices and home (hybrid working), some travel, including driving, may be required to meetings and site visits.
A keen eye for detail with good communication skills is essential for liaising with the sales team, factories, and technical teams while developing relationships with key clients and contractors. Candidates must perform their job to a reasonable, acceptable standard and show enthusiasm, passion, and engagement.
A candidate must have the “essential” elements:
Carrying out detailed design duties to a high standard, ensuring compliance with the company’s internal quality management systems at all times. The ability to work independently or as part of a team. Oversee the work carried out by other members of the design team to ensure accuracy.
Skills
1. Some Lighting Design experience is essential with a preferred minimum of 2 years previous experience.
2. CAD Experience is essential.
3. Excellent computer literacy skills.
4. Excellent Communication Skills.
Circumstances
At certain times, depending on workload and deadlines, the working environment can sometimes be stressful and fast-paced. Workload is always assessed by the Lighting Design Manager, and assistance will be provided where required. To ensure a project is issued on time, some late working may be required.
