Job Purpose
# Working collaboratively as part of the HQ Chaplaincy Advisors Team who are
responsible for the implementation of the SPS Chaplaincy Framework and
the corresponding Standards and Audit Assurance Framework across all
Scottish prisons.
# Maintaining liaison and professional relationships with the recognised Islamic
representative on the Prison Chaplaincy Steering Group (PCSG);
representing SPS on a range of forums (both internally and externally);
interfacing with Islamic organisations and communities within Scotland to
promote SPS.
# Providing corporate oversight into the delivery of pastoral, spiritual and
religious care by Islamic chaplains throughout Scottish prisons, and to prison
Governors and Senior Managers in accordance with the Chaplaincy
Framework.
The post holder will report directly to the Head of Social Justice and work to the
delivery of objectives detailed in the SPS Corporate Plan 2023 -2028.
Responsibilities
Supporting the Director of Policy and Head of Social Justice in the development and implementation of policy, guidance and actions required to support the delivery of chaplaincy services across Scotland. Provide responses to ministerial correspondence, parliamentary questions, freedom of information requests and any other official correspondence as required, including media interest.
Work with Scottish Government Officials and the SPS Public Protection Unit to provide advice and guidance to ensure the effective implementation of the Prevent Duty Guidance for Scotland (2015) and referral of Prevent cases to inform case management
Visit establishments to ensure the maintenance of the standard of Islamic religious provision; provide specialist advice and guidance in relation to Policy alignment with religious implications; provide Islamic services within SPS whenever required.
Provide establishments with advice and support to ensure the delivery of an effective Islamic chaplaincy service within the context of wider Chaplaincy provision and teamworking, in line with the Chaplaincy Framework.
Provide expert input with respect to the timely selection, recruitment and induction of Islamic Chaplains.
To participate in a range of SPS management meetings including regular meetings with your Line Manager, attendance at PCSG, and other team meetings.

Qualification Requirements
Hold a recognised qualification in Islamic Studies at 'Alimiyyah / Graduate level
Or
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Islam at an equivalent level (ESSENTIAL)
Be proficient in Tajweed (correct pronunciation of Arabic) (ESSENTIAL)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements
Knowledge – In-depth knowledge and understanding of: the role of Imam, have a breadth of Specialist knowledge; including the different schools of thought and denominations within Islam and be willing to help in, encourage interest in, and facilitate practice of those schools and denominations when required by different segments of the congregation.
Written and Analytical Skills - Excellent written and analytical skills and experience of interpreting complex information in order to resolve issues and produce high quality written work for a range of audiences.
Partnership Working and Stakeholder Engagement Experience - Experience of working effectively to bring together the views and expertise of a range of partners and stakeholders.
Experience – have a proven record of Interpretation, development and implementation of how Islamic teaching translates into delivery in a way that supports SPS policy/guidance and audited standards.
